Don’t get to many games being overseas, but these are my top five...
1. Man City at home in the cup. One of the few times I’ve sat in the Kop and actually enjoyed the experience.
2. F***** away in the cup. Took my Tottenham-supporting brother-in-law and he still talks about it as one of his favourite ever games.
3. Was the 5-0 away against Darlington to clinch the championship in the last decade? If so, I’ll have that.
4. The 4-3 win against Newport under Moniz. From 2-0 down to 3-2 and then 4-3 up. Did encapsulate the good and bad under Ricardo.
5. The 1-0 against Mansfield last season. A rare victory in a local derby and a rare moment of hope in a nightmarish season.
If I had to pick two games that summed up the majority of the decade...
1. A nondescript 1-0 defeat to Preston during Neal Bishop’s final season with us. Bitterly cold night with, I think, Kimomya in charge and the crowd starting to turn against the Trews. There were only about 3,000 there and, for the first time, I felt my club was dying a slow death.
2. 0-4 against Yeovil last season. After a bright 10 minutes at the start, we were truly abysmal for the other 80, setting the standard for the season.
It was but technically the 09/10 season was at least partly IN the last decade so I think we can allow it to sneak in
The friendly/s in pre season gave a hint as to what was to come but that game truely let people know we had some fantastic players and set out our stall for the season.
Fullarton's last game was very memorable, there's never been an atmosphere like that before at Meadow Lane and I doubt (and hope) there never is again, fans coming over with banners from the Kop and just laying into him and the team from right behind the dugout, I can't even remember the team we played or the result as it didn't really even matter, I don't remember even paying attention to the game from the moment they appeared in the main stand
Forest away in the cup was brilliant but so devastating that Hughes of all people missed the chance to win it with his penalty, if you could pick one player Forest fans would have hated to score the winner it would have been him.
Fulham away with 4,000 Notts fans was a great day too, the score didn't matter and everyone supported the team regardless.
Darlington away when we clinched the title with almost as many Notts fans in the ground as Darlington on a cold Tuesday night, didn't stop singing for pretty much the entire second half.
Getting battered away at Rotherham was a good laugh with us cheering winning a corner like we'd scored amongst other chants basically taking the piss out of ourselves.
Bloody hell....there's not a lot of memorable moments in the last 10 years!
Fulham away is probably the pick despite getting hammered and Liverpool in the cup....spending the night in a local working men's club after the game!
Missed the Forest cup game because I was forced to go to Pepper Pig World in Winchester!![]()
Has to be Wycombe away 2nd to last game of the season 2013 I think, from 3-2 down to 4-3 winners with Judge grabbing a couple.
Thought we were guaranteed play-offs till Sheff Utd went and ****ed it up for up for us a couple of hours later....
The rest is history.
I loved that game at Adams Park, I was in the home end with a mate and his Wycombe supporting family. Judge's goal, shirt swinging celebration down the length of the pitch in front of me and a fancy dress away end going nuts and invading the pitch will never be forgotten.
The Notts fans dressed up Crayola crayons bursting onto the pitch were my stars of the day.
As said, later that day whilst playing Snooker and having a pint I hear the Sheffield United score. Gutted
If we'd made the play-offs in 2012 we would have had to face Sheff Utd in the semis, who'd done the double over us including a recent 5-2 demolition of Notts at ML. Had we somehow overcome the Blades, we'd have then faced Huddersfield in the final who'd completely humiliated us at least twice around that time. You can't say for sure, because we had beaten champions Charlton at their place, so on our day we were perfectly capable of beating anybody in that league, but over three games I think we would have been found lacking.
Martin Allen later claimed that the plan, having just saved us from an immediate return back to the 4th tier, was to consolidate in 2011/12 and then go for promotion in 12/13 (due to contracts). Trew made a gamble to justify Allen's sacking and Curle's appointment and one year later was on radio Nottingham, clearly depressed, expressing how he regretted buying Notts and was ready to listen to serious offers. It was all swiftly downhill from there but the sacking of Allen was the real beginning of the end, disguised by frantic spending that achieved nothing.
