    Well done lads! Be proud.

I have a 50 metres breaststroke, and that's about it.

Bloody hell Alf, I suppose in one respect your dad was fortunate, he actually survived the fiasco. My dad was involved in a couple of dodgy situations, nothing like Dieppe though, but I could never get him to open up about it, I found out more after he'd died by searching a RN website on the internet than he ever told me. Did your Dad ever say much about it ?

That one's on my bucket list Alf. Was the trip worth it?

When we lived in France the old house we lived in was on the old pilgrim route of the 'Chemin de Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle'. I didn't know this until I asked a neighbour if he knew why there was what looked like a large scallop shell carved into the old stone fireplace. He said it was a 'Coquille de St Jacques' which is what they call scallops in France, and it was used as an emblem to signpost the route for pilgrims from northern Europe.

We didn't see any pilgrims, the tourist route starts a lot further south now at St Jean-Pied-de-Port. They don't make pilgrims like they used to.

"The Way" can actually start from many places (a popular one is from st Jean-Pied-de Port as Sinkov says) Another popular route is from Le Puy in France (has anyone been there? It's fantastic)

Me and Mrs 59-60 intend to do The way (from St Jean) on our tandem sometime.

I'm just pleased that I'm not religious ---each one to his own, although, I have played in many cathedrals and churches throughout the world.

Sometimes, just sometimes your gift for the gab really raises a smile across this wrinkled old mush:

They don't make pilgrims like they used to.

    Lol!
