You could also claim that a democratic country is one where the electorate choose a government to act and make decisions on their behalf. You are always going to get individuals who don't agree with certain decisions but in a democracy you have to accept the will of the majority.

A government that mandates the use of a vaccine before they work in an environment of vulnerable people is regarded as tyranny....I'm sure a few countries that actually live in tyranny would have a right laugh at that.

Hospital staff can't work in certain areas without MMR, TB, Hep B vaccinations...what's tyrannical about adding one more to that list?

Because basically we have eradicated those infections by vaccination.

Not so sure about that Leics.

As far as I am aware only 2 diseases have been eradicated, Smallpox and Rinderpest. Smallpox was a virus affecting people but rinderpest virus affected cattle etc.

MMR has made huge improvements but Measles, Mumps and Rubella still exist. Again great strides made in TB but it is still in the top 10 killers worldwide. There is a target to eradicate Hepatitis B by 2030 but described as a lofty ambition!

No we have to live with virus outbreaks, with or without vaccinations.

It’s hard to see how you could possibly take a job as a “carer” if you don’t care. It’s irresponsible to not think of protecting your patients. It’s selfish. As to thinking that the government is turning the country into a dictatorship I can see a huge chasm between the UK and countries that ARE under a dictatorship. I find it weird to even think such a thing. Don’t you find it strange that there are still people who trust the EU who have unelected officials, who take no notice of what people want “We don’t take our mandate from the people” yet criticise our elected government as if we have a worse system? No system is perfect, but this is one of the best places to live on this planet.

I agree about accepting the will of the majority. Being an ex trade union rep I have always gone with this.
But as far as I know nobody has had a vote on this lockdown, wearing a mask, which shops should close, where we are allowed to go.
This has been placed upon on us by the government who have given the police extra power's to enforce it, and you will have a criminal record if you break the rules.
How ironic that many people on this board are against face coverings for Muslims.
    That is a dictatorship.
Yes I can understand your point of view and people should use common sense for the benefit of others, but it's a dictatorship none the less.
Now they have us where they want us other law's will be passed. We have already seen a proposal for a curfew for men after 6pm.

I think a few posters here are maybe making the assumption that we feed off the conspiracy of anti-vaxxers and thinking this whole covid is a joke/hoax. I certainly don’t. But the point i’m trying to be clear on, is that all of these new laws being brought in and using covid as an excuse: everard as an excuse to get those curfews in, terrorism as a threat as an excuse to pry those eyes on seeing what we do on the internet, 10 year jail sentence to ensure we protest silently, £5000 fine so we don’t go abroad. It goes on.
Anyone else’s neighbourhood seeing new 20mph speeds brought in? The reason for that? climate change and safety. Obviously i’m not against safety and climate issues, but you see my point.
This has been happening for a while but ramped up during lockdown and it’s going to get worse. It can’t be objected by objecting parties because they don’t have the numbers and they can’t all be in full attendance in Westminster to hold the law makers/proposers to account. I could go on but albionic68 will any minute be here tell me off lol. Enjoy your freedom folks, we definitely voted for it.

To be fair to the government, we are currently a nation that has no clue about what it wants and will criticise whatever is put in place. Some want restrictions to allow for safety, others want their liberties at any cost. It's impossible to please all people currently.

We have criticisms over Everard and women's safety...police say their resource is being used for protests which are getting out of hand without any jurisdiction (i.e. Bristol)...government tries to support by putting in restrictions to how we protest....we react negatively to that. It's crazy.

Some people don't even know what they want. You criticised not closing borders on a different thread, but then criticise the £5k fine for travelling abroad without reason on another. Bizarre.

I should point out, £5k is a bit excessive the fine fine itself isn’t wrong. Like the 10years sentence, but excessive and should be a lot lower and relative to the actual crime. Sorry i should have pointed that out.
But the whole thing about travel is that people can still go abroad, surely if an outright ban before travelling you give your justification not be slapped with a fine at the end. The logic of the way they are doing things is bizzare.

Evening Regis - in my view any fine should be a percentage of an individuals annual income so it hits every person the same in their pocket. For example we have a customer who has a 75 million home in Kensington as well as many properties around the world - they said they are going to Dubai next week so 5 grand to them is like 5 pounds to you and me. So there you have it!!!
