But I didn’t mind to a degree, especially the bad old days when you could see 6 bouncers and over, not massively entertaining

But I think we had a good balance in the 90s and early 00s with good attacking batsmen and some real cracking players with good solid technique

We do seem to have gone too far the other way

However other countries seem to be relishing it, India have a good mix of batsmen with good technique and flair, albeit no one with the sort of technique of a Dravid / Boycott type
Boycott scored 40 runs per 100 balls which is by no means a horrible rate for a test opener, Strauss only scored at just under 44 per 100 balls and he always seemed to be a positive opener.

Didn’t research it mate, he just seemed slower
40 SR at test level in the day he played isnt bad at all

I’ve always loved his commentary and the pride an enthusiasm he had for players who fought and protected their wicket or their country

Ive posted the link to Boycott’s 100th hundred at his home ground in the test against the Aussies in 77 BS.

Look at the technique and quality of shot.

    14 fours in his 100.

He scored 191 in total in 471 balls and was last man out after batting for 6 hours and 19 minutes.

A study in temperament and technique as well as dogged determination.

Still the only man in history to score his hundredth 100 in a test match and on his own ground.

As a Yorkshireman this feat still makes the hairs on my neck stand on end when I watch it back.

I was 15 going on 16 that summer, I watched every ball of that innings and willed him on to do it.

Him and Cook are by far the best openers in my 50 years of watching cricket, they knew their game and their best 3 or 4 shots and didn’t try the stupid stuff.

    Both absolute class.
