I suppose what I'm typing is as good an example of how the country's changed in the last 25 years , this is not a criticism by the way but a personal view .

My wife is from Jewish stock , she's not a practicing member of that community but she has some extremely strong cultural ties to Israel and the Jewish people .

Some of her family managed to flee the Nazis before the outbreak of the second world war from Czechoslovakia when the Nazis rolled over the border and annexed it .

Some remained and were murdered in Treblinka .

She has family in Israel who went there in the 1960's after the state was created in 1948 who she is in contact with and was well before Facebook ever existed .

Obviously after the events of October 7th she contacted them to make sure they were safe and was there anything she could do .

They sent her a little pin badge with the Israeli flag on it and it contained some other Jewish content too , she obviously wanted to wear it and show some support for her family at this time , perfectly understandable .

She wears it mainly at work but called after work one night to pick some shopping up at Asda .

Apparently she received some really bad looks and stares not once but twice in Asda , she was in less than an hour .

On both occasions they were from people of Muslim heritage .

I told her not to wear it outside of work again because I fear it could have further consequences and the incident worried me greatly .

In the grand scheme of things it's nothing but none the less in a way it is .

I'll leave it at that .
