Last 2 were part of the Celtic Connections in Glasgow last month. First was Lloyd Cole (and a couple of the Commotions), then Loudon Wainwright iii. Both great gigs!

Getting tickets to see Taylor Swift left me acutely aware of my good fortune, raging, but it was worth it to see Paramore, who were supporting.

I went to ABBA voyage in January for my first time. I'd do it again but have a bit more to drink beforehand.

Yes, recommend a drink beforehand to loosen the dance shapes! We've gone for tickets on the dance floor in front of the stage this time as daughter should hopefully be tall enough to still see most of the action, so looking forward to that. Last two visits were in the cheap seats right at the side. Be great to see it full on this time, and wear my white suit again.

For any other Meat Loaf fans out there, I'd recommend the stage show Bat out of hell which is in Sheffield for a week end of April. Seen it 3 or 4 times in original London runs and makes for a great show with songs from all 3 Bat albums.

Unfortunately most of the good ones are either dead or dying and let's be honest there's not much coming out these days that's worth paying the prices they ask.

Last real gig was Elton John about 5 years ago and not sure when the next one will be. UB40 are playing one of the casinos around here in a few months so might consider that.

That leaves either tribute bands or local musicians. The casinos are great places to see tribute bands and they are nearly always free. One we really like are Eagle Eyes, surprisingly an Eagles tribute band, and we've even done a couple of 400 mile round trips to watch them as well as seeing them locally. We are also fortunate to live within a 1 minute walk of about a dozen wine tasting rooms and they all have free live music at some point in the week so we can go 7 nights a week if we so want. Saw a good local band last week, Dogtones, who played a great selection of mainly 60s through 80s music so will certainly go and see them again when they are back next month.

Hi CT . Hope you and yours are all well . You are right about the live music , brought on by my mis-spent youth at the usual haunts around Rotherham in the 60s. Interestingly this follows a conversation between myself and a couple of friends regarding tribute acts, I personally don't like them ,id rather see a second rate original band than someone like The Bootleg Beatles etc . I can understand the younger generation wanting to attend tribute concerts as they didn't get the chance to see the original . Id like to hear what other Madsters think about this

Hi Lincs, thing is for the young ones, most of the great bands from the 60's/70's have lost their band members through passing on so, no one can see them anymore. I think any music kept alive be it original band members or tribute acts is still great to hear.

Point of order, is there a Beach Boys tribute act out there and more importnatly would you attend if they were reasonable to good? I would.

Playing here at a winery in July. $100/ticket, no seat, take your own chair and put it on the lawn. Reserved seating from $200-$300. At those prices I'd expect some of the originals will be present. Tribute bands are usually free around here or up to $30 for really good ones.
