The Brothers seem to have got more things right than wrong during their ownership, including hiring and firing managers. The Salford game could be pivotal in the campaign so far as we were apparently awful and never in the game. I have a feeling that if this is continued over the Christmas and New Year programme then they will act to replace as required. They are no mugs. Historically they have patience with managers and are fair. I think we are at the stage now though where this has been displayed but they have also been ruthless when required.
PS - i hope that Maynard with a full squad and a series of home games will get us going again , however a few more repeat performances of Saturday and those with Good will for him ( including me) will probably be for turning !!
As we all know, SM’s problem is that he had zero credit coming into the season after the last half-season’s fall down the league. Any bad run was going to cast doubt on him, and we are clearly going through a very bad run at the moment (hence being 11th).

We’ve now lost three away games in a row (you have to go back to October 1 for the last away win) and haven’t exactly been LW-esque entertainers at home (true, we haven’t conceded in three games at the Lane, but we only scored two goals in those games). That great team goal at Doncaster is feeling a long way away right now, and Harrogate at home was probably the last strong performance over 90 minutes (and we only just scraped over the line then).

We need a great Christmas and to pick up lots of points, otherwise things are going to turn ugly among the fans.

I see Russell Martin has now been sacked by Saints as well. It's almost as if this possession-based football only works if you have the best players in the league. Teams that attempt to play that way with sub-par players get found out time and again.

The tide seems to be turning against 'progressive' football
Even Man City have been found out now that they have lost most of their defensive-minded players or the legs have gone on others
Let's be honest watching teams pass the ball around in their own half for prolonged periods attempting to wear out their opponents while probing for an opening is boring as hell even when it's a top team who don't give the ball away
Doing it with less talented players is a recipe for disaster as we see week in week out on the EFL highlights show
ITV4 showed the 1987 FA Cup final at the weekend
It was so interesting to see the difference compared to recent finals

I agree. I've never been a fan of our possession-based approach from an aesthetic perspective. Give me fast, direct football and crunching tackles any day. Results-wise, I think it served us well in the NL as our players were a cut above the opposition, but in L2, it feels like having more possession is counterproductive. All the oppo has to do is sit back and wait for us to gift them a chance. Plus, it's not like the attacking benefits make it all worthwhile anymore. At least under Williams we were a free-scoring side.

I'm not saying we should abandon our identity completely, but we're clearly lacking some key ingredients that great sides have. Say what you want about managers like Clough and Parkinson, but they consistently build teams that get results and are hard to beat, even with 40% possession. Desire and aggression play a bit part in that, and I think we seem to lack both.

Possibly but id say Cooper at Leiceater was defensive and so is Dyche at Everton there is no magic fix.

If you're players arent good enough you will lose matches it is really that simple.

It's the manner of the defeats though. Southampton wouldn't have lost/conceded as many as they have if they were managed by Dyche or Cooper.

How Russell Martin has got to manage in the premier league is a miracle in itself. He failed upwards twice and took one of the title favourites up via the playoffs. It's no surprise he was sacked, totally out of his depth at that level

Maybe not but like I said whatever he does they are likely to be bottom three anyway they will probably go for an old school manager now who will probably tighten them up but they will become more boring.

Exactly the same thing has happened to us since Williams left.

Well that and 2 of our most creative players being injured long term and the best striker we had for decades being sold. And of course if you want Cameron and Baldwin in the middle let me know.
