Yes that is a more accurate. He was there all along you can only assume lots of clubs knew about his goalscoring exploits for Gateshead. Yet it was our recruitment team who advised the owners to spend ?100K on him and his strike partner at that time. We pulled the trigger other clubs didn?t when they had a chance to get in earlier or outbid.

I have always wondered did Gateshead have a sell on percentage clause I always assumed they would

Based on what I have seen I am a fan of the recruitment team and an even bigger fan of the owners. I don?t think I?m alone on this.

The mention of Rodriques and Wootton is a good one. I forgot that we could have potentially cashed in on both and both signed by Montague. Like Langstaff they are both operating at a higher level which says a lot. We have players who I saw on Sunday who could and will play at a higher level than League Two which is again telling.

Of course they have made mistakes, some poor signings have been made, every club makes bad signings, it is impossible not too.

The league table GF and GA column told
us that the balance was all wrong last season in the squad which is the responsibility of the recruitment team. That has been addressed. You could easily argue that squad depth has been insufficient this season which I agree with although I would partly argue that some of the demands from fans on this score are unrealistic in terms of numbers (wanting 4 more first team ready players) and finances involved.

So my question to legs77 is why is he so insistent that the person behind the overall impressive recruitment need to put under pressure and under the spotlight? Does that benefit the team?

Do the coaches believe they have been short changed, hung out to dry by the recruitment team in any way this season? I don?t think so.

As someone said the club has moved from
playoff spot in the National League to a playoff spot in League Two so something has worked

Doesn?t matter how much background work you do there are variables you have no control over, including how they settle in to a new club, new place to live etc.

Even top Prem clubs have players who just don?t work out, some of them multi-millions of ?s. Jaden Sancho for example and you would have to question even Jack Grealish. Doesn?t mean that he isn?t a good player though.

Signing players will never be an exact science.
Every club makes bad signings I dont dispute that.

Lets look at players with injury records before they sigbrd Ness Cundy Morias now when you are L2 dont you think that is a huge risk of finances ?

We signed all of them knowing this info.

I am also aware of Jones too he is a one off.

As my original point stated SM gets flak if players signed are not up to it is that all on him ? Also in Europe people in RM communicate with fans/media more in England none of them do so fans ramp pressure on the coach.

There has been some duds but we?ve also signed players that get you off your feet at a game and I love that.
Not sure I understand the negativity around McDonald in other threads, people were waxing lyrical about him on his full debut and tbf Cundys hardly had a run in the team due to up to now hardly any defender injuries.
The next window is critical, there?s not a lot wrong with the squad but 2/3 quality signings and keeping key players we could be cooking on gas.

Think I?ve said it before but I really don?t understand the grief RM gets from some quarters. The recruitment since the takeover has been fantastic barring the odd apparent blunder like Morias?.who I still think has something, but just didn?t work out.

There?s been some loan moves for sure that haven?t worked out but the brothers and RM have ensured that they?ve strengthened every season in key areas whilst still playing decent to really attractive football. When ***** players like Wootton, Roberts, Rodrigues and Macca have moved on we?ve actually strengthened those positions?.who is responsible for that?

Without going into it in much detail I?d suggest a 70% success rate in permanent signings

What the hell are you talking about? You?re talking about injuries like they?re just one issue and you?re either prone or not.
Ness is proving to be a very good signing. Morias we signed in the NL and Cundy I couldn?t tell you about.
So by your logic we should only go for safe bets like Scott who had no history of injuries but has spent 75% of his Notts career ruled out. And also Bajrami and Palmer.
Im guessing you weren?t happy that Palmer signed a new contract, now being a crock.
I would take your point if we were signing players that had history of repeat injuries and clearly had a reoccurring problem?.but we don?t.

That?s the thing, how many players has RM signed? 30 odd and how many came with injuries? Not that many I don?t think.
There?s nothing wrong with signing a player that?s injured as long as your confident its not serious like we did Ness. When Morias got injured for D&R it was classed as a knock and he?d played plenty of games before. As you say you could anyone and they could to do their ACL 2 days later on training. If you don?t sign players with injuries you?re probably missing out on 15-20% of the market.

Well put it one way id not sign a bloke whose spent a whole year out with a hip injury who cant run.

We're going round in circles here my original point is the way the model works is its a management team but only our coach is getting flak whether that is IB LW or SM.

Im of the opinion if you as coach hasnt bought the players in then you should not be the only one facing tough questions.

Its why I laugh when people suggest Robins or people like him if SM goes he is a manager not a coach.

There is no safe bets as you say but you play the percentages and usually it works out ok generally.

That is what we have done and I would say it has worked out better than OK.

Who is the one who can't run?

Cundy cant run or turn well imo.

We'll agree to disagree on this.

Lets hope we can get a few more in for 2nd half of the season.
