Big Sam could have been sacked for sure, but he immediately got us back up again with interest (record breaking season) and it wasn't a new low for us to be at that level. Ardley may be unique across the English game at "Elite level" for surviving this long after taking a club to its' lowest point ever.

I know a lot of people hold Ardley responsible for our relegation, pretty harshly in my opinion, but fair enough. I disagree, the ship had hit the ice berg long before Ardley came in....maybe even years before, and we we have been steadily sinking ever since, as POM pointed out in another post.

I’m sure if any of us could have witnessed the behind the scenes mess that was that season I think there’d be a lot more understanding towards what happened, and in-particular, Ardleys reign.

Anyway, my point is that I believe we can only rate Ardley on last season (and even then he had reasonable excuses for a poor start, which I’m sure we can all agree upon). With this in mind we should look at his stats from the start of last season.

Not including the FA Trophy wins, which would bump up his score, we played 40 competitive games (38 league and 2 playoffs). Of those, we were victorious in 18 of those....giving a win percentage of 45%.

Say what you like about his football or supposed excuses but using the stats on last season, (which our owners most definitely will) in the Reedtz brothers first full season in charge, it not only pints a positive picture but it also puts him up there with some of the best managers in our history.

Bearing this in mind, some still bizarrely consider last season a failure. In my mind that first season isn’t illustrative of Ardleys capabilities as a manager, last season was more so, and this season will be the do or die moment. The owners will be well aware of the situation and will move if, and when, they need to.

    We are in good hands.

And I believe that is one of the most breathtakingly stupid points I've ever read on here. So we forget that he took us out of the football league and only concentrate on the fact he had a good record against teams like Chorley?

If we forget Jamie Fullarton's defeats and just concentrate on the other games, he was a pretty good manager!

NCM pictured after a decent win.
Head above the parapet Swale I still lean towards out. Great result and Mr Ardley seems to be willing to change his very negative formation but I am yet to be convinced.

Agreed. Really enjoyed the result but still a bit too soon for the Ardley statue fund. We are becoming a strong team at home, but it's games like the one on Tuesday where we need to improve. If we attack them we can get a win, but if we 'respect the point' we probably won't get it!

We are playing in non-league for the first time in our 158 year history. None of us have seen us play at this level prior to last season. There is going to be a level of expectation amongst supporters that we should be playing well, being positive and attacking in games and winning regularly at this level and aiming for a swift return to the football league. Only those under the age of 25-28 will not remember us playing in the top two tiers of English Football.

So playing cautiously (not to lose) or poorly against teams in tier five who some supporters may never have ever heard of before we joined this league or against part time teams, or those clubs with a lot less resources and ability will draw a lot of criticism from many supporters towards players and the manager. That comes with being at the biggest club at this level..

Of course we have no divine right to beat anyone at this level and we are playing non-league because we are where we deserve to be.

That’s why I think this board is very active after a defeat because it causes a reaction amongst many supporters when we struggle or play badly at this level, especially as it’s the lowest level we’ve ever played at.

    Lol.

If there had been a late Barnet equaliser , and the 3-0 lead had been thrown away this thread would be over 400 posts by now without a doubt.

We can all be glad that didn't happen.
