Stuart Maynard has achieved the best finish in 7/8 years, and if he doesn't get promotion this year, he's superbly positioned for next season.
Apart from the fact his home record is poor, his tactics are uninspiring and dull, his limitations are glaringly obvious, he can?t conduct a honest interview, his players dislike his tactics, and he?s on course to equal our 163-year club record successive home defeats TWICE in the space of 18 months? then yeah, we?re in for a great season next time around.

All this despite losing the league's leading scorer before the season started being without the PFA player of the year through injury most of the season, losing an influential midfielder in January all Maynard's fault I guess. Now lets look at the division's experienced Manager/coaches, Paul Cook,Mark Hughes,Dan Cowley,Simon Weaver,Michael Flynn, Lee Bell,David Artell,Andy Woodman and Graham Alexander all vastly experienced and all finishing below the Magpies in the league this season. Maynard has kept the Magpies in a play off position for allmost the full season and might still achieve promotion this season so please consider these facts before you call for his head like him or not he's by no means the worst manager in the division.
This has been my argument for virtually the whole season.
Before we had lost Langstaff, Nemane, Jones + others to injury then Crowley in Jan, the general prediction was mid table. He generally wasn?t considered, by many, a manager that would give us a chance of promotion with those players. We?ve been without those players, been in the top 7 anll season, and people have still wanted him out every step. And that?s not even considering the off field changes.
Your point about ?experienced? managers is spot on. At this level ?experienced? normally means they?ve been sacked multiple times.
I?ve watched a lot of league 2 football this season and I can confidently say the way we play is the best in the league from a performance perspective. The teams above us have been better because the league doesn?t lie, but they?re not exciting to watch. That?s also been mentioned by most of the away commentators I?ve listened to. Yet, he?s getting pelters for playing boring football.
We sold Crowley (correct decision under the circumstances) but left ourself with nobody that has his passing ability from deep, so we?ve conceded a lot of possession and tried to get the ball into Jatta earlier and feed off him. Jatta is just not suited to having his back to goal, but this is what SM is left to work with.
There?s a lot of reasons IMO as to why we didn?t finish top 3, but if I had to point to just one of them, it would be the Jan window.
If anything, Maynard has been the one let down this season.
If he?d been sacked at the end of last season and a more popular manager had been appointed, the injuries and players sold would be far more accepted as a reason for finishing 6th, and many would have said we?d have been relegated this season if we?d kept him!

Unique idea? Many, many posters say this every week.

    Sorry to ruin your narrative.
    Where have they said this?

The truth is that, given all the circumstances of players fitness, experience and capabilities, we've over achieved.
We do know that we're capable of winning away at the Thugs; but who knows if we'll be given a fair chance...
A great many people disagree with that, including me.

For a crack at the National League maybe, it's only our away form that's kept us up.

Can't argue with any of this. At the end of last season, I thought that some of the stick he was getting was a bit harsh and was prepared to give him a fair crack this season - he's failed on just about every metric other than possession for which, as we all know, you don't get any points. He's failed to show any adaptability and if recent performances are anything to go by, appears to be managing a side that he finds hard to motivate

We got 35 points at home so it’s not actually true to say our away form kept us up seeing as we’d only have needed 7-8 points away all season to stay up.

Now performances might not be great that is a different thing all together.

Anyway he might only have one game left and then we will see where that takes us as it is possible as Notts fans know we can appoint somebody worse so I’m glad it’s not me having to potentially fire him and get someone new in.

That?s right. I remember listening to his post-match with Bracegirdle and feeling (pleasantly) surprised at his comments re; the owners? target. We were in decent form at the time and SM admitted we were behind the target. So how far we eventually finished behind the target must be a long way off what?s expected and throw in the other negative factors, I find it difficult to argue his case to remain in charge.

If he somehow wins us promotion then he will still be in charge next season.

Then we?d be very fortunate to avoid doing a FGR/Carlisle.

He?s not the right man to manage Notts County, be it League One, Two, National League.
