I think you're possibly in a minority on that one, not for the fact she received a punishment, but the length of it. It feels to me like the speed and extent of the process was politically motivated from start to finish as a warning to folk who don't want to 'tow the line'. Compare to the glacial pace of consideration of a public figure inciting, with premeditation, an audience of millions to 'kill'

Perhaps I am, AF, which bothers me not one jot.

Understand your comparison with, I presume, Bob Vylan. I don’t applaud the way he/they behaved but when you compare their behaviour with the actions they were protesting about it really does pale into insignificance. Perhaps people should be more outraged about starving children being murdered in Gaza than they apparently are about a punk band kicking off about it as part of their performance.

Where Lucy Connolly is concerned, let’s not forget who she is and what she said. Indefensible imo, and nothing at all to do with ‘toeing the line’, unless the line you refer to is applauding arson and murder…which I doubt.

I agree RA, if half the faux rage about a pop star's rants was directed at what is actually happening in Gaza, there might be a point.

Whilst Vylan did make some unpleasant some of which were anti semitic comments, (though death tot he IDF wasn't) they have been misrepresented (quelle surprise) in certain media, the Daily Fail being one of them. Apparently though 45,00+ being killed is nothing to get outraged about!

If people believe the conspiracy theories being trotted out over Lucy Connolly's sentence, then I feel sorry for them, unable to distinguish what's a genuine issue and what's manufactured by certain right wing politicians and media to suit their own agenda.

The two sentences make me wonder just what the hell our judiciary think they're doing.
I would suggest they are following sentencing guidelines MA, which irrespective of the offenders ethnic background do seem to treat ***ual offences rather lighter, than say criminal damage a factor thats been in UK law for eons. I am always baffled by sentences handed out to *** offenders, which often seem to lenient, though one does not of course no all the circumstances of each individual case.

Always good to read your well thought out and reasoned response, but I guess its easy to be flippant about something that one personally has no connection with or indeed any real understanding of the issues.

Anyway Uncle Nige is going to send all *** offenders overseas to serve their sentences, assume he means anyone regardless of their skin colour or religion or nationality.

Quelle surprise, 40% or so of the rioters last summer, the ones apparently so "concerned" about women and children, have had pror contact with the Police for various offences, including, domestic violence, stalking, child abuse and other crimes associated with physical, mental and ***ual abuse of women and children.

These are the voters we are pandering to? FFS!

    Interesting…but, as you say, unsurprising.

Suspect ‘Uncle Nige’ won’t be so keen on sending them abroad.
