Ellis d, think red herring, think dry sense of humour, a is not always necessary.

I'm trying another line of enquiry....

Anything to do with Lynne Perrie or Duggie Brown? Perrie toured with the Beatles; Duggie Brown had Filey connections....

(Perrie iived in Bramley - I think on Park Grove - in the late fifties. I was at primary school with her son, Stephen, and remember going to what would have been his 9th or 10th birthday party. Lynne Perry was memorably pretty and bubbly, as I recall - from more that 50 years ago...)

Eyup ST, thanks for another great quiz, sorry I can't help but I can't wait to find out the link.
CT, I think Lynne and Duggie started life on Midland Road when they were the Dudley kids. My Mum used to tell some great stories about them..... all of them good, I might add :-)

Blimey, CTMiller, you're really casting around for Rotherham folk who might have a vague connection to any - or all - of the Beatles.

Interesting as your glimpse of Lynne Perry in her pomp is, and it's always nice to be reminded of Duggie Brown, who acted so well in "THe Price of Coal" (as did other local club comedians, eg Bobby Knutt), they're way off the scent.

Do remember, chums, that the question asks 'who or what' is the link. It's mainly been 'who' so far in your answers, and people like Jane Asher do figure in the answer, but are not THE answer.

PS: Thanks, great-fire. Nice to be reminded of Delius' Filey connections, touched on in the Ken Russell biographical film on BBC1 all those years ago, ("Song of Summer", 1968 - it's on YouTube & well worth watching). based on the book "Delius as I knew him" by Scarborough lad Eric Fenby, recalling his life as Delius' assistant. Great film.

Whenever I stay at Filey I try to pay hommage by always being seen on the Brigg, Coble

Thank you ST3 for reminding me about "Song of Summer". I remember watching it on TV in 1968, I shall certainly give it another watch on YouTube. It was the first time I ever came across the word amanuensis, a word which had escaped my poor education, but has been logged in my mind since.

With reference to the Dudley kids, there were three of them Jean, Keith and Barry. Jean became Lynne Perrie in later life and Barry became Dougie Brown. I've no idea what happened to Keith, perhaps he became someone's amanuensis.

I really only raised the Dudleys so I could share that positive reflection about Lynne Perrie. She was obviously rather pathetic in later life and I wanted to show the more likable side. (It would still be interesting to hear Sota's recollections, though!)

Sugar , music is not my thing but do find your music threads intriguing ...I do like the carpenters ...voice of an angel that lass ,any way back to the quiz ....does it involve a guitar ???? I seem to think there was a guitar maker that lived in rotherham ....Eastwood ( of all places ) ......a shot in the dark pal

Villa, a valiant effort to shoot something in the dark but a guitar, Rotherham made or otherwise, isn't in anyway involved in the answer (except that three of the Beatles played one, of course).

Karen Carpenter had a stunning voice, a brother with a very large ego but a great deal of talent, and a sad, tragic end. The Carpenters' albums kept Herb Alpert [A] & Jerry Moss [M], of A&M Records, in expensive art works & race horses for years.

I'll try another shot in the dark: anything to do with where Beatle jackets and Butlins Redcoat blazers were made?

Shot in the dark, CTMiller? More like whistling in the dark to keep your spirits up, I'd say. No, nothing to do with where Beatle jackets, Butlins Redcoats' coats, etc were made, or any clothing item at all.

As it looks like I'll make it through to tomorrow's kick off without anyone coming up with the answer, I may indulge you and give you a clue then, if I've time - rushing down to London post-match and will be out of touch until late Wednesday so you'll have plenty of time to 'think on'.

But ponder: what could Rotherham & Filey have to link them with the Beatles?

And where does Jane Asher fit in?(I'll leave that to your imaginations for now...) Or has CTMiller just muddied the waters for everyone introducing her?

See all, learn all, rockall in the next episode of "He forgot to say 'pardon'". [with acknowledgements & thanks to V.Stanshall*]
