    O/TMusic Quiz: Beatles/Rotherham/Filey

As requested by CTMiller, finally I've managed to run down all the facts & clues relating to this quiz, which ran in part a couple of years' ago.

So, chums, tell me: who or what links the Beatles (a popular 1960s singing group, M'Lord), Rotherham ( a town in South Yorkshire) and Filey (a small town in North Yorkshire on the coast)?

Let's see if I can spin this one out at least until the season opens. The Rolling Stones quiz linking them to East Dene went sooner than expected a few weeks ago.

Hello Sugar, easy this one, in 1957 I spent a fortnight convalescing at Filey Home which was run by RMBC whilst there I befriended a scouse kid called Dick, his nickname was Schnozzel ( his nose being of large proportions)
We shared a lucky bag , he chose a gold coloured plastic ring , so his new nickname was Goldie . We shared the same dormitory and you could hear what sounded like someone banging on a drum coming from Goldies bed.
On the last day as we bid each other farewell he slipped me a tatty piece of paper with what looked like musical notations with a few scribbled lyrics, which went something like.." If I fell Id cry instead when I get home" Obviously Dick wasn't his real, undoubtedly ...Pete Best

Try a bit harder next time

Thanks, Sugar. I thought we'd moved on a bit with clues two years ago but I can't quite remember what. I recall from a clue you gave that we deduced a link through Jane Asher and I think it was something to do with someone having actually been to Filey on some occasion. Can you at least take us up to there?

In the early 1960s, a young lad from Rawmarsh (often considered by the Kempo's of this world to be a small town in Rotherham), who later became known as CAMiller, was dragged by the scruff of his scrawny neck to Primrose Valley, a select resort within the municipality of Filey. Unfortunately, whilst there and due to the fact that the selected residence (caravan) was adjacent to the entertainment centre (bingo and slot machines) the ears of said lad were bombarded 24 hours a day by the song "How much is that doggy in the window?" You know, the one with the f$%king waggerly tail! It is often believed that had the Beatles musical journey taken a slightly different course, this tune would have been their first chart topper. Hence the connection is proven

    Hello ST,

Is it anything to do with Tim Moon the guy that used to do the cover albums for the Beatles.

He used to live in Filey as I recall.

If it is just can`t make the connection with Rotherham.

Apart from we do have a lot of buskers in the town.

I think the link is Habershon. Habershon house in Filey is owned by Rotherham council (or was). It isd after W G Habershon who designed a baptist church that stands opposite the Abbey Road studios in which the Beatles recorded.

That sounds a cracking answer to me catweazle, I'd fall for that.

ST3, can I just divert your attention for a smidgen, knowing you went to RGS. Don't fret it's nothing to do with Kempo. Did you attend at the same time as Jeremy Spencer (sit down Geetarman, not that one), Ian Rufus, Philip Early, John Twistleton et al, or were they in the year before you?
