The 'factors' dictating our 'pecking order' position financially wise would be a fairly exhaustive investigation given the up and downs from the Prem teams and with that the others who have differing income vs expenditure profiles.
As said the ability of our manager has far reaching consequences, and this is where GB proved to be fairly astute (overall). However the 'backdrop' of his tenure stipulated promotion was the goal and he was arguably failing.
With that 'burden' taken away our chosen manager would have/has more chance of being relatively successful.

Yet again it would appear, Venkys doing it their strange way. And again for me why PL walked.
This time its the Seneca approach. They say that none was made, but reading between the lines one was, but they have played with the wording in their 'media response'.
When you read Senecas version, they asked over 'the possibility', and in there where they would like to be guided in terms of right and proper etc. (if Venkys were happy to consider).
This was allegedly with Ewood personnel plus Venky adviser.
It would seem that they've been ignored.
Venkys fairly cleverly uphold their announcement of no offer, by simply not engaging with Seneca.
If true, this to me yet again displays their attitude to being questioned.

In normal business their adviser could and should have informed Seneca the offer had been considered, but politely declined.
It would be in 'my world' at least.
