[QUOTE=Balanbam00;38855107]...ruling Alawite Ba'athist party... I think if you are not part of a ruling class, you will be very neglected...Sunnis regarded the Alawite Baathist regime as illegitimate, oppressive and anti-Islamic. /QUOTE]

So the Assad's are pretty well first cousins to the Hussains over in Iraq?
Back in 2011 the sentiments we got were that whilst Bashar Assad was an evil bar steward, he wasn't nearly as bad as his dad Hafez who along with uncle Rishaat, masacred the citizens of Hama; I wonder if they still think that, or has Bashar's death-toll perhaps by now caught-up or even overtaken them?

In 2002, me and the ex-wife had a glorious two weeks in Jordan sinkov.

The Jordanians are extremely affable and we both really enjoyed the trip.

Looking back it's bizarre that I never gave the Israelis a moment's notice!

B T : Israel has a peace agreement with Jordan. The people in Jordan suffer economically. Another aspect is that Jordan is home to about 2-3 million Palestinian refugees,( or more? ) The unrest in Jordan is often overlooked by the global media, as they are occupied with bloodshed in Syria and the trouble in Egypt. The Hashemites are in trouble, and they are not necessarily immune to the Arab Spring tsunami streaming through the region. There have been anti-regime protests in Jordan The Hashemite regime tells its Palestinian majority that they are merely “refugees who should return to Palestine,” while in reality, Jordan is a Hashemite-occupied part of the British Mandate for Palestine, which Jews have given up in exchange of an un-fulfilled promise of peace.

One of Jordan's biggest fears is the "alternative homeland" idea which has arisen several times among certain circles in Israel. According to this idea, the Palestinians' real homeland is Jordan and will eventually move there from Israel. For this reason, Jordan is considered one of the biggest and most insistent supporters of the two-state solution – a step it believes is essential to its survival.

On October 26, 1994, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan became only the second Arab country after Egypt to sign a peace treaty with Israel. The signing of this agreement brought optimism for the possibility of ending the greater Arab-Israeli conflict and initially led to increased cooperation between the two states. Economic and other types of cooperation can play a role in helping to achieve, warm peace between Arabs and Israelis. Why has the hope of economic prosperity, development and interdependence not brought warm peace between Arabs and Israelis? However, political conflicts in the region have kept it from achieving its potential.
There is still very little trade. But King Hussein also believed that his country could gain more from peace with Israel and maintained a de facto peace, despite occasional cross-border skirmishes. Israel is also frustrated that cooperation with Jordan must be carried out secretively because of political sensitivities, while in Israel it is said that relationships with the Arab world are out in the open. Jordan’s experiences in working with Israel can also act as a gateway to the rest of the Arab world. However, this will not happen unless there is positive movement on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
