What he should have done was stay here for another season or two to learn his trade properly and see where it would lead him. The thing now is he'll only want to manage in the Premiership which he could do but he'll never win anything there. The top 6 now know he isn't good enough.
You may be right MoP but it's equally feasible that they'll think he wasn't experienced enough. If he gets that experience, he has a chance of managing one of the money's no object clubs.

After Chelsea his natural ‘habitats’ are West Ham and Bournemouth. He’s hardly on his uppers so I imagine there’ll be a spell of occasional well paid punditry and then once one of those two begins to flounder - as is the West Ham/Moyes way - it’ll be ‘Frank time’.

Doubt he’ll ever get the Leeds gig.

Same is probably true of Rooney...hopefully he’ll do a good job at Derby but success with us won’t go unnoticed, Ancelotti isn’t getting any younger and I wouldn’t mind a bet on Rooney being the next Everton manager in two or three years time.

I hope Rooney is a success here, I still ahve my doubts but he deserves the chance. Lets hope we don't ahve a repeat of the Lampard situation and if he is a success he sticks with Derby and takes the club into the prem and establishes us there. Then he can go, because the calibre of manager we can attract will be better than if we are still stuck in the championship.
