glad I don't have a say because deciding whether Whitaker is a player worth investing in is difficult. He's definitely skillful and has character, but he needs more physical presence and more consistent performances. He has pedigree at youth level which makes me think he could transform quickly with the right coach/team. And I think he'll chip in with goals from most AM positions. Depending on his wage demands and how the club sees our whole midfield next season, I'd say he looks likely to stay.

Hiram Boating has been released by Mansfield. Would be a decent L2 midfielder.

Rather have Curtis Thompson on a free as he has been released by Grimsby

On Whittaker what you need to ask yourself is - if we don't keep him then where do you think he would end up - my guess is he'd join someone like Newport or Cheltenham.

Agree. And interesting to compare Whitaker and Josh Martin. Hopefully we're talking about the emerging player slot behind a currently more effective first teamer.

Possibly true but I think the club may think where will he be in 12 months time ie could we get ?100-200k for him.

Still thankfully we dont have to make that call !

It could go either way, but he's more likely to end up in the NL than the Championship in five years' time. Lots of talented youngsters look set for better things but fail to make the grade. Remember Zack Brunt? Cal Roberts?

If we don't get promoted, I'd maybe offer him a new deal, but he can't be our long-term replacement for Crowley.

Update - Zak Brunt, promoted with NL Champions Barnet.

Cal Roberts - In NLN Play offs with Scunny, turned down a move just recently to the Heed.

It's been said by others and I agree that CW gets knocked off the ball to easily. A bit of time needed on the gym weights perhaps?

Turned down a move to Heed because hes on a Dave Hilton contract.
Scunny fans reckon a ?50k Promotion bonus in that contract.
