Tony Benn nearly destroyed the Labour Party in the late 70s, this led to the formation of the SDP. He did more damage to the Labour cause at that time than the Tories could ever have.
Either folk on here dont even know about this or its been glossed over so they can look like worthies.

Worth reading some of the obits, he was definitely fearlessly principled - unlike the politicians around today (he renounced his peerage to get into politics). I didn't agree with a lot of what he said, as it was too idealistic, but when AWB was in cabinet he did a lot for the UK. RIP
