2/ Students will be sent home early so as to stop f u c k ing up all the rest of the countries lives and schools will close earlier for Xmas and probably go back a bit later.

3/ Boris will announce ( full of bonhomie) to a grateful nation that lockdown is being relaxed for a ten day period up until 2nd of Jan and that normal Xmas festivities for families can take place.

Someone tell me I’ve got the playbook totally wrong on this!?
Plus the mandatory wearing of face coverings for outdoors.

My point is that as the lockdown in March, April, May had had an excellent effect why did they open up the borders and let all the stupid fools go on continental holidays. As soon as Europe opened its borders the thing went mad again. It would have been far better to have kept the UK contained with closed borders other than for necessities etc. and do staycations. Every one would be back at work, pubs open, even footie grounds might be getting back to normal. Harsh for a few months but it would be done with, and most be back to normal life and most businesses would be open. Instead the UK has faffed around through the last five and a half months.
BMG when they opened up the borders there were some countries that had better stats than us so those that travelled were at less risk than those that enjoyed a "staycation". I believe they relaxed the rules because they thought that lockdown could not go on forever for various reasons - when the sun shone our lot hit the beaches & in Bournemouth an emergency was declared. Perhaps the more vulnerable stayed away and were sensible, thus limiting the number of hospital cases.

I posted the above on the 1st of November as this second lockdown was announced.

Not far wide of the mark either was I ?

1/ “R” rate not coming down fast enough so it’s already being leaked that lockdown will continue after 2nd Dec.

2/ Students being packed off early.

3/ More leaks last night suggesting we are going to be let out our boxes for around 5 days at Xmas but with more severe restrictions beforehand and afterwards.

Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year to you all⚰️⚰️⚰️⚰️💀

We do at least have hope for 2021 tho Mick, without a vaccine as a nation we would have had to make some tough decisions as we desperately need to get back to close to normal, hopefully now those that are vulnerable can get their immunisations over the winter and spring and the rest can get on with things. I will certainly raise a toast at midnight on NYE with some optimism..

Im sure everybody wants to kick this sh*tty year into touch Ketts, for a number of reasons.
My concerns at the moment though are just how long will it take in 2021, before we can all say things are finally better and getting back to 'normal' ?.

Yes indeed, Acido, how long will it be before we are considered ‘back to normal’? Maybe next season, when we are back in the Championship (probably) and we can travel away with the Baggies and have a beer before the match at Barnsley!

I have a long standing family friend who works with Bournemouth coastguard. Apparently 500K people turned up in one day. You could not make it up

WCV, sorry I missed your post of 2 /11.

I understand your point. My point is, looking at it from a distance, it was inevitable that the UK would go back into a second lockdown. The country came out of the first one prematurely. Countries may have had better stats but they were not clear or even near being clear of the virus, so allowing people to holiday from the UK was short sighted.

I only have to peer 26 miles over the water from us, towards the Bailiwick of Jersey, who’s Government have followed, almost to the letter, the UK model of relaxing to early and faffing about with different rules etc. and they are rife with the virus and have been so since they came out of lockdown. They are heading for a second lockdown, why, because they tried to kick start the economy to quickly. The long term effect of another lockdown on their economy will be worse than if it had been dealt with properly the first time around.

Parts of our local economy have and are still suffering, but shops, pubs, clubs etc. are all open, there are no restrictions on gatherings, no social distancing, no mask wearing, we have been back to normal since June. The only thing there are restrictions on is travel in or out. You have to be tested and isolate until you get the all-clear. Most are not travelling so the local airline is suffering. However even they have not been slow in finding alternative business by doing flights for a formula 1 team all over Europe. I am not saying lockdowns are great, what I am saying is do hard, do it properly and the effects of the virus can be reduced dramatically. If that had happened in the UK the first time the UK would, most likely, be in a far better place than it is right now.

We are due to get hundreds of students returning from the UK for the festive season so we are expecting a spike, however the Governmet appear to have this covered, so fingers crossed.
