Incidentally I ask the question were you at the match last night simply because you see players movement or lack of it off much clearer watching live as opposed to tv where the camera tends to follow the ball & does not give you the broad view of what is actually happening .
That would be fine if he was doing the Ray McHale role.
    But he isn’t.
The role of breaking up play - is the role of the central midfielder Russell - or Connell when he’s fit.
What I call the Makelele role.

The two midfielders either side of the central midfielder (Russell) are there yes to defend but also to support the strikers and chip in with the occasion goal.
    Styles can do that.
    Phillips can do that.
But the Crab offers nothing because he hasn’t got the speed to beat a player - and although he has it in his locker to produce great passes he more often than not always chooses to play the ball safely, either backwards or sideways.
It’s a wasted position on the field because any Tom, Dick or Harry can knock a ball a few metres sideways or backwards
Kane is offering little or no threat to the opposition.

Kane should also be taken off spot kicks and corners because all he’s doing is lobbing the ball into the middle.
He dosent produce a powerful dipping cross like Cadden and Phillips can.

I can only comment on what I've seen in the three games so far looking at a tv screen and as Shad quite rightly says you don't see the whole picture as you do inside the stadium .

However even I can see that Collins even though he's stuck to the 5-3-2 has changed the way we play from the way Duff had us set up .

From what I'm seeing it the reintroduction of Styles that has changed things from last season , that is to say it's not Styles at that fault we have huge gaps for the opposition to exploit but rather the role he's asked to play .

Collins is playing Styles as a ten which is a bit different from the three midfield players we went with last season .

The gaps are appearing because once we turn the ball over high up the pitch Styles is out of the game , we were fine last night when we put the high press on Peterborough or at least it was acceptable but as the game wore on and Peterborough played out more successfully or we tired the gaps were there for all to see .

The gaps are also there because Russell doesn't smell the danger , can't read the game , isn't mobile enough or is out of gas on the hour mark , take your pick as you see it .

I'm still trying to figure out what Kane's role is at the moment , I'm not knocking his contribution but I'm trying to see what he's supposed to bring to this new midfield shape and in all honesty I don't know as yet .

Now defensively there were individual errors that cost us goals last night , it happens however in my opinion those errors were a consequence of the pressure that Peterborough were allowed to place on us through those gaps appearing .

The defensive three still needs work on it none the less , it's three individuals at the moment and it needs to be one unit with everyone knowing their role within that three .

Collins needs to ditch the ten role he has Styles playing and go with a flatter three in midfield that Duff played and he's helped in that respect by having Adam Philips back from suspension .

I'd personally go with this shape on Saturday .

    Williams ---- Lopata --- Kitching

    Cotter ----------------------------------- Cadden

    -------Philips --------- Kane ------ Styles

    --------------- Cole -------------------- Watters

You have totally missed my point , as the game went on and Russel tired & the front two taken off there was less & less movement off the ball & Kane is looking for players to find movement & space , if this does not happen he will not simply kick the ball anywhere he will move it sideways or backwards in order to keep possession , were you actually at the game to witness the point I am trying to make ? & secondly why do you have to be insultive to Kane ?

To be reyt honest…. That is the best summary of the game last night. I was there, and incandescent with rage when I left , and for the 15 minutes before they scored their first was saying that they had a run of the midfield.
The middle players in the second half just looked as though they weren’t there on the pitch! Kane didn’t know where to turn, Russell ( and I like his role) was tired, (as he has been for weeks/months…)…. And STYLES, is just running his blood, because he is the one who REALLY wants away, and needs it the most…………
Agree same team…but Watters isn’t for me……. Id go Jalo, or Marsh….. time for a change. These lads have earned a crack.

“But I’m still fully confident this season will be a success once things settle down.
A club is only as good as its directors - and we have a solid base to work from.”

    What sh1te
We get it Nudge now….. two years after you arrived, we now know that the club board could kill puppies on “5 on the Farm” in front of school kids and you’d spin it to their advantage…..… personally I think you are probably not even a Barnsley fan. Just a good WUM….

Gradually, one by one the folk on this board will not reply to your stupid, attention seeking posts, and you’ll go away. Perhaps support Coventry

Today, is my last day of reading and responding to your drivel.

I do remember a long time ago saying best he (YN) be ignored Jules.

However I do admire folk who have tried to debate with him but they are becoming fewer.

Love the correct use of "fewer" Chops.

I don't know if Tesco still have the "Five Items or Less" check out signage but it should read, "Five Items or Fewer".

"Fewer" is used to refer to number that is counted eg The actual attendance at Oakwell is always fewer that that officially stated

"Less" is used to refer to quantity where things are measured eg Russell put in less effort as the game wore on

You can always guarantee a typing error appears in such posts---"that that" should read "than that"
