Still thankfully we dont have to make that call !
It could go either way, but he's more likely to end up in the NL than the Championship in five years' time. Lots of talented youngsters look set for better things but fail to make the grade. Remember Zack Brunt? Cal Roberts?

If we don't get promoted, I'd maybe offer him a new deal, but he can't be our long-term replacement for Crowley.

Update - Zak Brunt, promoted with NL Champions Barnet.

Cal Roberts - In NLN Play offs with Scunny, turned down a move just recently to the Heed.

It's been said by others and I agree that CW gets knocked off the ball to easily. A bit of time needed on the gym weights perhaps?

Charlie Whitaker was not signed as a replacement for Crowley. He is not that type of player. He does have a lot of ability and certainly puts himself about a bit on the pitch.
Yes he is young and currently a bit too lightweight but that will change. Certainly worth another year or two.
I think we would come to regret letting him go.
Mind you, it is possible that he won?t want to renew. That would be a story in itself.

    Speak for yourself, Meltdown.
I'll be seeing a game tomorrow where this kind of thing is decided.

You shouldn't though, if you know the outcome already, save your time and money

Hoping the bros have a 'non-promotion we can sack you for free' clause in there.

Turned down a move to Heed because hes on a Dave Hilton contract.
Scunny fans reckon a ?50k Promotion bonus in that contract.

Tommy Johnson was young and of slight build, and that was in the days of hatchet men being on the pitch. If your good enough, your old enough..

He was certainly signed to partially fill the gap left by Crowley. If Crowley hadn't been sold, there would have been no need to sign Whitaker unless as backup.

It's a difficult one. Young players who can already make things happen don't grow on trees, but you could be waiting years for the body strength and better ball retention to develop. I wouldn't be surprised by a decision either way
