I hope not, means we might be related. He did quite a bit actually. Fought in the rearguard at Dunkirk before being one of the last lifted. Fought in North Africa. Landed on the 10th of June 1944 in Normandy and was wounded at the Battle of Caen, but not badly enough for him not to be there when the Allies pushed on into Germany. Being regular Army he didn't come come until 1946. Well, you did ask. All I know about you is your dad smacked anyone who called him Mick.
Thanks for the story.
As I think I’ve put on here before, my maternal grandad was killed at Arnhem aged 26. He was Irish but lived in London.
My other grandad fought the Black and Tans in the west of Ireland. Another glorious chapter of British history, going round a foreign country killing unarmed civilians and setting fire to property. The Labour party put forward a motion in the HoC condemning the actions of those representatives of the British crown, but obviously the Tories voted it down.

Is this the start of a push back?

Thanks for the story.
Not sure I really needed a lesson in Irish history but thanks all the same. West you say, surely not West Cork! I do like it when someone throws a bit of romance in.
I know you said you wanted to go Arnhem, I never knew why. Despite having no family involvement in Market Garden, I said that I was planning to go this year. Who knows, if we kept politics out of it, we might have even enjoyed a pint.
