Moan Moi? I think I'll do an ExeterMiller and form a splinter group where people will be free to predict the results that they foresee and won't have their hands tied by draconian rules imposed to benefit the ruling classes

    IT'S THAT TIME AGAIN!!!!

I think we've all missed a 'live' game and the atmosphere what footy brings to us all.

Anyway, we can look forward to a new Prediction League and I'm looking for ideas, (now't to complicated that takes up loads of time), that will keep it interesting throughout the season.

I know some of you left the League part way through which was a shame but, it's a personal choice at the end of the day and that is both acknowledged and respected. It would be great if some of you returned and others also joined in, which makes it more of a challenge.

I will go through the previous posts on this thread and seek out what may well hopefully create more interest but, would appreciate some other input if possible from those looking to join, be it new or a regular. With the opening fixtures not too far away, I'll put a cap on it a week on Friday. Cheers for taking the time to read this and hopefully you will be having a crack at becoming the new Prediction League Champion

I'm in (literally just from the pub) !

Not read through all the posts but (sorry if it's been suggested already)

    1 point home
    2 points away
    3 for a draw (max of 5) ?

    My suggestion

    10 fixtures
2pts for a W,L or D and no messing about with limiting players to how many of either they can pick.
No bonus for getting all 10 correct - just the 20pts earned.
5 bonus pts each for predictor(s) of the week to the poster(s) who gets the most points that week.
Goal bonus - predict the correct number of goals and double your weekly score. This bonus will only apply when ALL 10 fixtures are completed to prevent messing about with waiting to see if postponements happen etc.
Personally I would also limit the competition to Saturdays except over holidays like Xmas and Easter and I'd state at the start of the year how many weeks will be played e.g. 40.

Predicting a home win is easier than predicting an away win or draw. (In the EFL roughly 45% of games end as home wins; 27% as away wins and 28% as draws.) Shouldn't the points awarded for predicting each of these differ as a result?

    Otherwise some good thoughts.

I tend not to be in favour of big bonuses arising from lucky guesses. The 10 points for guessing the total number of goals scored always seemed very random and elevated scores largely based on luck. I like the idea of linking it to actual points scored but might suggest limiting it to a maximum of 10 bonus points still.

I agree in principle about the H A D probability CT in a free pick of any game but in a series of fixtures hand picked to be difficult it's not the same. If I was picking 10 fixtures I would never select gimmies such as when we play at Hillsborough

I also agree about the potential for big bonuses but it does give stragglers hope rather than have them give up.

Okay, having had a quick browse on the suggestions put forward, I've come up with these so far:

BramleyMiller58' idea of 1 point for a home win, 2 points for an away win and 3 points for a draw spreads the chance of scoring more points much better. Thanks for that.

Fixtures will be from 10/10. Get all 10 correct and you will receive an extra 20 points. Grist to the Mill showed us last season this is possible to achieve.

5 points will be awarded to highest point scorer(s) of the week.

Goal Tally, guess the correct amount of goals scored and you will receive an extra 5 points. (Reduced from 10 last season).
The extra 5 points can only be awarded though if all 10 fixtures are played. Any postponed games will not count.

Get 10/10 fixtures correct and the Goal Tally also correct and you will receive an extra 30 points. Very much doubt this will be achieved but it's there to be claimed if it ever is.

The Joker - One 'Joker' bet will be allowed per person for the season. Simply pick a week you wish to play your 'Joker' and you double your points on that day only. Some may score loads of points while others may be glad they played their 'Joker' that day, as they may well have scored very low.

An added extra outside bet. Before the season starts, choose ONE player only who you believe will score the most goals for the 2121/2122 season. Get this right and you will receive 10 extra points. In the event of a tie, all those with the highest score will each be awarded the 10 points. You can have a player from the Premiership, Championship, League 1 or League 2, the choice is yours.

    Thoughts please?
