Prediction League - New Season with new ideas for points scoring.

The new season will soon be upon us, (Sept 12th) so, I thought I would give you all a heads up on a few ideas I'm pondering with the scoring.

I am more than happy and willing to put the time and effort in to continue running the next Prediction League, if everyone's in favour of me doing so.

At certain points and times last season, the league became cramped and was beginning to be boring, with a lot of players on almost the same scores. For that reason I'm looking to run a new points scoring system that will hopefully prevent that from reoccurring throughout next season.

    Predictions

    1. You will have to pick 10/10 and not 5 from 10 fixtures. This will hopefully see a few break away leaders from the off.

    2. The fixtures will come from all four English divisions.

    3. Midweek, FA Cup, EFL cup games will also form part of the fixtures.

    4. The 'total goal tally' will remain but with a new added bonus.

    The Scoring of Points:

    1. Every fixture you get correct is 1 point, unless you choose a fixture to be a draw, then you receive 3 points for that, see Point 5.

    2. Get all 10/10 and you will gain a further 20 points = 30 points in total. This is a big bonus but is also very hard to predict so, I feel the bonus is warranted.

    3. 'Total goal tally' - get the total number of goals scored correct, from all 10 fixtures, and you will receive a further 10 points.
Considering I will be mixing the fixtures from all 4 divisions, it will make it extremely hard to get this correct on many occasions. It is harder to get 10/10 rather than just picking a random number for the total number of goals scored and getting it right but, I am trying to incentivise the bonuses from all angles in order to split players scorings so we are not all clumped together. We will all have the chance to win these bonus points, so it's a fair playing field.

    4. Get all 10/10 AND the total goals scored correct and you will win a whopping straight 50 points! This I feel may never be achieved throughout the season hence the massive reward.

    5. Predict a fixture to be a draw - IF the result is a draw you get 3 points not 1. Again a big one to call but deserves the reward for calling out a draw.

Many points to ponder over, what do you all think?

I like that everyone predicts all 10 so it's fair when a game or games get postponed. Does the bonus apply to 9/9 or 8/8 etc if 1 or two games are off?

Unusual for me but not being pedantic Brin. I assume the bonus is on top of your points score so if you get all 10 and 3 were predicted as draws then you'll score 36 and 56 if the goals are spot on? Unlikely I know but maximum would therefore be 70 for all 10 draws and goals correct.

In a word, no. It's 10/10 or nothing. Get 9/9 or 8/8 and you'll score 9 or 8 points, tough but we can't reduce it just to suit needs. We're all in it so it's all fair before a ball is kicked.

If you put it like that then yes but, very highly unlikely that will ever happen. Imagine if some put all 10 to draw and they did and got the goal tally correct? The PL season would be over they would be declared the winners, I would have thought,

It looks fine, it’s a bit of fun, go for it.

And thanks in advance to those giving up their free time to run it.

Sorry Brin but I can't see the predicting of a draw and gaining three points if correct will work. It would mean that anyone could predict all ten games to end as draws and get three points for every game that DID end up all square, thus (most likely) giving them a good total of maybe 12 or 15 points and finishing up with more points than those who went for mainly home wins or away wins. It's a good idea re the draws but to award three points is a bit too generous I.M.O.
Remembering some of the prediction weeks we had last season when most of the games ended in draws, wow, ha-ha, lots of points there.

Perhaps a maximum of five games anyone can predict as ending all square, that could work maybe Brin?

    Damn, you’ve seen my plan

Just award the three points to the first predicted draw maybe?

That's a good point Nez. Maybe keep all predictions as 1pt would be better rather than introduce the complexity of giving 3pts and allowing no more than 5 draws to be picked. I'm not sure picking a draw merits a bonus over picking a H or A as long as there are no 'gimmies' in the fixtures.
