Suppose it was the Ministry of Defence who sold it in 1999

    Yes RAF Finningley

One of the longest runways in the UK because it was a Vulcan bomber base

A target on the film " Threads"

When it went civil there was no real chance of objections due to noise stopping the conversion

And to think, the government recently approved a grant to build a line direct from Donny train station to the airport…. You couldn’t make it up!

So the money they save from that will enable them to make a further cut in the top rate of taxation

Need to get English Heritage on the case. I'm sure they could throw a few spanners in the Peel Groups plans for a number of years.

Being Donny perhaps we can convince them that it's where the tow bar was invented

Whoever sold the airport on originally, didn't they realise what Peel group stand for? Or did they just want their quick slice of the £ notes and did one?

Those poor folk all about to lose their jobs. What a great friendly airport this is.....what a shame.

When RAF Finningley closed, the airforce personal housing was used to accommodate refugees, I was working near the base. Bloke I worked with, his wife worked for Donny Council looking after them. Council laid coaches on for them to take em to Curry's, Dunholme etc, for them to pick their white goods, this, bedding etc, the shops were closed to general public when refugees visited shops all labour councils gave refugees £10 a week to put on their mobile phones. Mates wife called out many times early hours of mornings by police, refugees in Donny night clubs fighting, I told her she should have left them to stew, with her living in Gainsborough & going to cop shop at around 3am in a morning.
