SE he's in retro signing players who've now lost what speed they had & are older like Rafferty Raggett James Kelly Mcdonald JCh. After the game yesterday said he's only going sign players who add something to the squad do they? Rafferty he's not a wing back so give him the benefit of the doubt. Raggett JCH I've not written them off.

I thought he got his team selection and tactics completely wrong yesterday. Was amazed to see Bramall and Hugill both start ahead of James and Nombe and was also surprised we played a 5 at back with just 2 in midfield which made us having to go long every time because we were outnumbered in midfield. I don't think Hungbo is a number 10 either should be playing one the wings. Overall we lacked quality going forward with not much support from wingbacks and lack of pace up front with no control in midfield.

TBH when I saw the starting 11. I can't remember this comb of players playing in pre season..
Nombe has been the bright spark in most of the games , James has looked class at LB and looked like him and hungbo were forming a decent partnership...
From the midfielders over pre season, tithe has been the least convincing.
I can't work out why SE played these players.
Maybe he was trying to prove a point that he can get more out of Taylor's players than he did.
Maybe he's trying to play players in a formation he wants but doesn't know who is best for those spots.
Maybe it was just an off day.

In his post match interview he said Nombe hadn’t trained well last week so wasn’t picked. So maybe he only chose players who had trained well !?

sorry i was in rant mode

The post match interviews were interesting

    1. Odofin - No question about contract, and he brilliantly avoided commenting on how he was finding working for Evans.

    2. Evans - The man has no grace at all, his dig at Exeter was not required, he needs to focus on his job not the jobs done by others. The best part is he said there was no lack of effort, passion and commitment ........was he at another game. That team look unfit, they sat very deep with no closing down, their keeper walked the ball out of his area to around 35 yards and not a single Rotherham player approached him.
Now I never expected use to play fancy football under Evans, that isn't his way, but the Blackadder Duke of wellington style of "shout, shout and shout again" is quite embarrassing and frankly not needed. What I did expect is a team of grafters, that chase and chase, close down, don't give the opposition time on the ball, that wasn't there, as I said on first post they didn't look like they believed in themselves as a team. Tuesday and Saturday will be interesting but for different reasons, here is hoping it gets better, a lot better.

Yes I heard that comment too.

I'm not sure whether making it public was the right thing to do. Obviously Evans knows the player and you can only hope that Nombe is the type of player to respond positively over such a comment and not sulk over it. To be fair he looked quite good when he came on.

Sam Nombe would want to play a good game, seeing that we bought him from Exeter City.

He came on, crossed the ball for odofin to miss that easy header, had a shot on target and a header wide. He should have started against his old team, we had little movement up front. I watch the game in my chair and moved more than JCH did in the first half.

If a manager is going this route then it's obv Evans doesn't know his best formation. Like in games. Not every player performers week in week out but to leave 3 players on the bench who arguably have performed in most of the pre season games is poor from Evans..
