Ulley, when Hugill first arrived I thought we'd signed a decent striker for once. He applied himself accordingly and the fans soon took to him then, it all started to change???
I'll hold my hands up and say I am a fan of Hugill but of late, it's all changed for me. His antics have become unbearable beyond redemption. His insistence of going down for the easy free kick is spoiling our formation and attack. He no longer applies himself as a robust centre forward, lord knows, he's got the physicality to do so.
Yes he's clearly sulking not being picked as a starter for a league game but, if he's going to insist on being negative, he'll never get picked and especially for his current on field antics. It's just not acceptable!
Now, having said all that, his game play against Newcastle U21's was a totally different Jordan Hugill that we all know. I don't accept we were playing kids, we were playing young men looking to break into Newcastle' first team in the future and were applying themselves accordingly. Back to Hugill, he very rarely went down under pressure, stayed on his feet and even scored off the floor when down, such was his point to say. 'I can do this'. He scored two goals and was very unlucky not to get a hat trick. The question is, where is this Jordan Hugill when it comes to a league game?
King Ronnie's spoken with him, I'm sure Evans/Raynor have too so he's got to stop these antics and make it count. All eyes will be on him to deliver come Saturday if Clark - Harris isn't available. It's as simple as this, keep playing as poor as he is and he's the first one out of the door come the January transfer window. The club showed Eaves the door, so why not Hugill if the money is there to move him on?

I'll admit, I thought we had got a break signing him - decent pedigree (relatively, for us), experience, and the QPR season suggested he had it in him. Physically not imposing, but looked strong and capable. I was concerned about his goal ratio, but hoped that was down to not finding a club he could settle at (Preston I think was his only lengthy-ish stay). He immediately added the sh**housery we've lacked up front and on his day he was a proper handful. For me it was autumn after we signed him when I started to think he was too keen on going down and only ever brought his best against prior employers (I think he's only scored twice in league games against anyone else), and that's never really changed.
For me, he was one of the few who gave up after the consecutive 5-nils and put himself on the injured list. It seemed too convenient that he was fit again as soon as Evans arrived (and he wasn't alone, we all know there was a lot of BS behind the scenes back then). As much as we were already done by then, that was unforgiveable and I'd hoped the board would have seen him as a priority to shift on. Whether that wasn't possible because of the lack of options, or maybe because he sang the right tune behind the scenes, I don't know, but we're back now to having the inconsistent striker, sometimes sulky, always game for a bit of acting, but ultimately not massively likeable or suited to the Millers.
A good post Brin. I will ask a question, you say "if the money is there to move him on", we have to pay the money if he stays, if you offer a separation agreement it wouldn't be for the full contract and certainly wouldn't involve any performance related bonuses, so yes the money is there. The question really is do the club want to settle up, move him on and get a replacement. There is a bloke in a nearby club that the club should bring back at least on loan until the end of the season, and that is Smith. I know he is older but a motivated Smith playing alongside, Nombe, osong, green, Hungbo, JCH, Holmes and Wilks excites me. Now a half season loan is perfect, we will know what league we are in and have the whole summer to find a longer term replacement for Hugill, also a loan will not require us to pay the full wage. It is a no brainer for me and being TS spoke so highly of Smith surely a few phone calls and an honest conversation with Jordan can sort this out. I have nothing personal against Hugill, I don't know him, it is just not a good fit and all parties will be better off if he leaves in january (well New Years day ideally). However, the real Hugill might turn up and bang in 5 goals in the next 6 matches
Hugill he's under 6 ft doesn't win headers full stop someone must have realised that by now. In the summer instead of Osong should have got a forward who could. We can't defend corners through squad there's only Raggett who should be able to in the air when he's fit. Not enough thought went into this aspect of side among others through recruitment in the summer.
Derbs, I would imagine that Smudge and Hugill are roughly on the same wages, I may be wrong. A barrier could be that I can't see Weds letting Smudge go in January unless they have an ideal replacement and the big question is, would he want to come back to us?
Far too many Millers saw him as a money grabbling back stabbing greedy git that did the dirty on RUFC. Personally, I saw a young man coming towards the end of his career who, with a Wife and young family to support, sought out the best deal/contract he could possibly get for them all. This is something a level headed person would have understood but, it doesn't wash with the non understanding fans of ours who only see the Weds connection.
The biggest barrier if moving Hugill on, is his large wage. The norm is to for two clubs to come to an agreement and say, we offer 40- 60% of his wage and someone else to picks up the rest but, who'd take on a player with the level of performance he's delivering to date?
Can’t see it myself hasn’t Hugill still got 2 years left? I’m sure when we signed him it was a 3,5 year deal He’s sitting pretty and there’s no pressure on him to perform other than his own self pride
What I would say is if he doesn’t put the effort in and JCH is out for a considerable period then SE won’t put up with it anyway as it’s reflected on him selecting him AND making him captain I guess it’s up to him it’s a shame as he can finish eg when he lobbed the keeper earlier this season and that goal at Southampton last season
So frustrating he’s got the talent despite the evidence he can’t be arsed
Maybe he thought his performance Vs Newcastle was enough to get him a start Vs Peterborough. Maybe he wasn't happy being sat on the bench Again to a under performing JCH....
If Clark Harris has tweeted his hammy. Hugill should get them next 4 games to impress.
Judge him after them imo.
