Aberdeen Football Club is greatly disappointed to have received a written transfer request from midfielder Lewis Ferguson today.
This request, made after the Club dismissed what can only be described as an insulting offer from an English Premier League club for one of Scotland’s most talented young midfield players, was rejected immediately.
The Club holds Lewis in the highest regard. Having made a significant investment to both acquire and develop Lewis, he has a bright future ahead of him as an integral part of Stephen Glass’s squad.
I've said for a while that he'd be gone this summer. He's been here 3 years, and made a good contribution, so I wouldn't grudge him a move for bigger money or whatever. This season he's been pretty poor overall - in games where we needed him to step up I don't think he's really done it. I reckon he'll be gone if we get £3-4m for him. He'll not go to Rangers - they're not going to pay that kind of money for him when he likely wouldn't get in their starting line up just now. He'll go to the Championship, or maybe bottom end of the EPL if he's very lucky. I said ages ago that if McInnes gets a gig down south he'll come and take one or two of his favourites with him - Ferguson and Lewis the prime candidates. Selling him for £3-4m and buying McGrath for £200K and picking up Campbell on a free would be decent business.
Cormack has more of a backbone than Milne so we won't sell Ferguson unless we get the price we want. No doubt the transfer request prompted by a greedy b@stard football agent. Both Ferguson and his dad seem pretty level-headed people whenever I hear them speak so doubt it is them that has prompted this. Submitting a transfer request is all part of the game these days, we shouldn't be too bothered by it.
As others have said we should be perfectly happy to buy good young Scottish talent, get 2-3 seasons benefit from them and then sell on for a good profit that is then reinvested in the team. It's the only way we can realistically build the quality of team we want. Having multiple examples of a pathway to the riches of englandshire is also what will help recruit the best young talent to keep the cycle going
