Begs the question...why did she do so badly in last year’s post Johnson leadership contest? The same ‘electorate’ will vote for the next Tory leader.

Appealing to people's baser instincts - mainly those unable to cope with complicated issues and who like things to be black and white will follow the faith, family and flag theme - works to an extent, but as Poland has shown when those of a more realistic and reasonable nature band together instead of arguing amongst themselves, the hard right authoritarian politicians can be overcome.

I do find it funny (in a macabre sort of manner) that the evangelical right spend so much time trying to protect the unborn "life", but then are equally vociferous about protecting the right for people to have guns and endanger those actually born!

But then if anybody is unable to se the irony and hypocrisy of a politician from an ethnic immigrant background spouting the bile that she does I guess they deserve what would happen to them, their rights and freedoms should she ever get near power, which she won't. Very doubtful she will even get near the party leadership to be honest.

I was really commenting on the 'they' thing above, which suggests that you think a 'fair' percentage of the population will be confused because she's the 'wrong' colour or ethnicity.

The 'they' that I encountered yesterday, 'salt of the earth' folk, don't appear to think that at all, in fact with really isolated exceptions I've not heard that about any of the 'coloured/ethnic' politicians we have or have recently had, any 'dislike' (or on rare occasions 'like') of politicians seems much more focussed on what they have to say. I don't get involved in discussions about politics in the real world but it was an enlightening listen as I forced down my overcooked sausage and chips

There is clearly a base of around 20% who do, it seems likely that some of the 150,000 and declining members of the party might be, though half still seem to believe Truss and Johnson failure wasn't down to their own utter uselessness.

Braverman is trying to introduce Trumpism to the Uk, thats a narrow band of idiots to appeal to, most people in the UK still have some respect for truth, decent behaviour and the rule of law. Its utterly amazing that having ****ed the country over in the last decade the Tories think lurching evermore to the right is the answer!!

It's enchanting rA, you should visit.

I think I've been to all although if Humberside still exists as an autonomous area, maybe not.

Also think I missed out on Westmorland before it was struck down in 1974, but I believe it's back again this year, so a chance returns

So I’ve heard. Got a friend, wooden boat fanatic, who stays there every year. Don’t know why I’ve missed it, been to Suffolk, but my natural inclination always seems to be to go west.

I was trying to avoid the ‘W’ word because I know it upsets GP...but my UK coast of choice is the (whisper it!) mid Welssssh one. There and the Gower.

P.S. I think Humberside has now largely reverted to being the East Riding of Yarksheer, GP...so you might not like it.

Your disdain for the good people of Norfolk is noted Swale, but it’s a bit ironic when you slate people for their dislike of people from overseas when you can’t even be nice about your fellow countrymen.

I’ve also just done a quick rethink of people in the vicinity of the conversation yesterday and don’t think any were from Norfolk
