Docherty’s position at United was previously held by new head coach Tam Courts.

However his duties will be different from those of his predecessor as the Tangerines plan to expand the remit of the post.

Docherty will be responsible for tactical analysis at first team level and scouting the club’s opponents.

His role will also involve working closely with the Tannadice outfit’s academy as they look to integrate more players into the first team.

The Terrors are looking to move away from the traditional managerial figurehead model used in Britain, favouring a more continental approach with their coaching set-up.

Prior to his spell in Croatian football, Docherty was a coach and analyst with the SFA’s Performance Schools.

He then spent time working in China as head of coaching for Xi Guan.

That was followed by a teaching spell at Real Madrid’s University, where he created and delivered courses on coaching, technical and executive roles in football.

Our only target goes to Hibs not unlike Nisbet last year. Also it seems we can't beat Berwick Rangers or Cowdenbeath. Not a great start for rookie management team. Are those the kinda things that come up on the iPads. Maybe we need better iPads.

It’s easy to take the mick out of ‘modern’ football techniques what with software analyses and other systems such as recruitment methods, but Oor Jim in his day was way ahead of his time with a lot of what he did what with sports psychology, nutrition, training methods etc etc. I have no doubt that if it were now, he himself would be embracing a lot of what now happens and indeed would likely to have started incorporating it way ahead of the rest. Such was the nature of the man. Of course, the ultimate bottom line is that he also put out a winning first team on the pitch. For all our fancy ‘modern’ approach those at the Club would do well to remember that that is fundamentally the singularly most important Key Performance Indicator - something that Jim never lost sight of.

Agreed. A cup's a cup. Strongest team in every game and actually treat it as a national cup competition!

On the transfer front, it's really f*cking disappointing to think we could be going into the first set of games with the same team as last year bar one player. 😕
