I meant unless we are unloading a couple first, we are overloaded in that department. Remains to be seen how well they cope at a higher level, we may be surprised though.

Mochrie and Glass have to be given a run this season. No point in having talented youngster stagnate while we bring in a bunch of 29 year olds that had one good season 5 years ago

Didn't think Glass was up to much last season if I'm being honest and he was completely outmuscled against Hibs. Mochrie seemed a bit more capable of holding his own in the short time he got on the pitch.

Very happy with the signing of Bolton. He looks better than what we have in both the full back and right wing position.

You'd hope he can get something extra out of the players yes, take that mental fragility out of them that was evident when Butcher wasn't there to hold the team together, but I'm not going into the new season assuming he can improve this squad to a point where we are all of a sudden a Premiership side.

Powers looked slow and sluggish in the Killie highlights I thought. Only highlights though, so hard to tell.

As for Stewart. He has a year left on his contract and is on a reported £7K a week. He'd command a fee and a huge drop in wages, whilst probably still being one of our highest earners. He also doesn't fall into the category of player we can improve and sell on. Would be a strange signing imo.

Young players having picked up experience and still on an upward development path - Robson, Smith, Appere.
More young(er) players who should now be pressing hard for more game time - Glass, Mochrie, Freeman, Graham, Neilson, Davidson
Players from abroad now more bedded in and getting up to speed with Scottish game - Harkes, Powers, Sporle (and to a lesser extent Benji)
Also potential benefit of new manager and more pressing style with clean slate for some players. So direct comparisons with h last season may not be appropriate.
Of that lot, I can see Appere really stepping up to the plate. Think he proved against Hibs he has what it takes to make the step up. One game I know, but he looked more than comfortable against superior opposition.
Robson and Smith, I just don't think are good enough. Unless Robson can knuckle down & take on what the manager is coaching into him, I think he'll struggle. His lapses in concentration really let him down and going by the Killie game, that doesn't seem to have changed. Smith, I just didn't see much improvement in last season. I got the impression that was his level.
Mochrie was the most promising of the youngsters for me. The kind of central midfielder we actually need to have ready for the first team right now. Confident with the ball at his feet, reminded me of Armstrong somewhat.
Glass promised so much but delivered very little. I think he would benefit from a loan out to somewhere like Raith to continue his development. The talent is clearly there, but it needs developed with game time. He's not gonna get that sitting on the bench and I don't think he's quite ready for a starting jersey. The rest I haven't seen enough of to make comment.

Disagree on Smith especially. Time will tell, but I think he'll be absolutely fine in the Premiership. Robson I thought was good against Hibs at home considering he was chucked right back in after injury.

Agree on Mochrie, would love to see him get decent game time. Glass definitely has plenty to offer too but is 3 years older than Mochrie - he needs to show that when he gets the chance or he will be back out on loan. Same with Chalmers.

This for me, I dont think there is much between Mochrie and Glass, Mochrie is bigger physically and quicker maybe but the crucial thing is at 17 he is 3 years younger

Smith reminds me of a poor Keith Watson. Criminal letting him go when we did.

Anyway, yeah, the difference between Glass & Mochrie is their age. I'd say they're both of a similar level, but Mochrie, as you say, has a lot more time to improve on what talent he has already developed. Glass should be looking at Appere as an example of where he should be right now. He still has time, but he needs to get a shift on.

Maybe our new manager isn't an arse and might give the boy a proper chance. People writing him off after one poor game against Arbroath. A game in which another ten players in tangerine were honking, and playing in a ****ey system. Ask Cove fans what they thought of him. Not saying he's definitely going to make it, but we won't find out until he's given a proper chance, which should have been last season in the diddy league instead of being put out on loan again. Even the clown before the last clown saw he had real talent

Was last year not Declan Glass's first playing mens football? I'd say give him a chance to see what he's made of, but this is going to be a big step up from his first season so don't expect miracles.
