This is the thing with football, there is a lot of randomness and unpredictability involved. I think it was Jimmy Greaves who said that there's nothing worse than football to make you look stupid when you try and make a prediction.

You only have to look over the river how one game can completely change the course of history, they were seconds from going out of the FA Cup 3rd round in 1959 at non-league Tooting and Mitcham. One last minute goal and the whole of Nottingham football is a different landscape for the next decade or so.

I watched the highlights of Bolton v Wolves in May 1977 a few weeks ago, Bolton so close to winning that game (including a big chance for big Sam) which would have seen them go up instead of Fword. They literally scraped promotion by the skin of their teeth and then look what happened.

This time next season we could be banging on the door of League One or scrambling around in the bottom half of the NL. Nothing is certain in this game.

    Not half!

Two years ago, Italy won the Euros and looked a very good team doing it. Last night they were prevented from qualifying for the World Cup by North Macedonia. If that doesn't illustrate the randomness of football, I don't know what does!

I’m not up for any of this fine granularity profess if Notts end up back in the football league next season then I know we have progressed.

Well at least one person will be happy if we don't get promoted. He will still manage to get to Barnet...

Progress is ultimately seen in football by league positions. No doubt behind the scenes they couldn't have got any worse when the Reedtz took over & things have improved. The quality of the football has greatly improved by the fact attendances have been very good & fans going to games hoping for the right result but also knowing they will generally be entertained.
But my opinion is despite the bigger picture, its the league you are in that will show progress, not just to us fans but others as well
