So somebody is doing alright thanks very much .

The British car industry was on its backside back then and whilst the strikes didn't exactly help the industry wasn't competitive and quite honestly built shyte cars .

Same with mining , not competitive and a declining market , it could possibly have survived in some form or another to this day if some compromise from the NUM could be found but the reality is the industry was over way before they walked out of Cortonwood in March 1984 .
I’ve not checked the details but they did report a £219m loss for the 1st half of 2022 and a 3.9% reduction in year on year turnover. I don’t know if they’ve thrown in any one-off write downs etc. to make the numbers look worse. Certainly looks a bit fishy. Especially when you look how much they paid out in dividends.

As you state, previous profits were impressive so there should be some room to phase out jobs over time and modernise the business if that’s what’s needed.

If the unions and workforce go too militant the business will ultimately suffer and no one will have a job there. After all how many owners need a daily delivery these days. Post is generally made up of bills and/or leaflets.

So basically what your saying is that need to lay down their weapons and surrender and be prepared to work for less and worse conditions .

The only people taking Royal Mail down are those in the boardroom who aren't prepared to pay their workers a fair wage .

But hey ho once the ink on a trade deal with India is dry the Royal Mail will have access to the resources at a rate they are willing to pay .

I think Dave Ward of the CWU is well aware of the need to be flexible and that changes are always going to be needed in such a competitive sector .

I've listened to the bloke a ton of times and what he said a number of times is that shareholder dividend is king , nothing else matters whether that be investment or R&D .

The top brass at Royal Mail keep the dividends paid out up to satisfaction and job done as far as there own careers and enhancements go too .

Simply put rip as much out of the thing they can and whilst they can with any long term future for the Royal Mail neither here nor there .

Bold statement which surely must be based on some evidence?

A week ago, which magazine found that royal mail was second only to amazon in terms of customer satisfaction:

So on what basis are you saying they are crap at parcels?

Amazon vans are in almost every street, every day, they could deliver letters too.

And they're very rarely late, they're usually a day or two early.

So I'll try again with this one , if one competitor is superior to another in your opinion then whose fault does that lay with ?
