I think it is along the lines of - cup winner goes into the final qualifying round of the euorpa league thingy. If they win they go the the group stages. If they lose they get a ridiculous parachute to the group stages of the bottom league thingy (in my book, if you lose you're oot. Don't care who you are).

If Tims win the cup, that poisond chalice goes to 3rd in the league. So, if we don't win the cup 4th is fine by me. Few pre-season games in some hopefully nice places.

That could all be totally wrong, but I believe it is like that.

That sounds right. Would it be fair to say it?s only a poisoned chalice if you let it be? Could you not go into it with open eyes and use careful squad rotation to take the European games as a free hit?

That?s probably ridiculous but you could take the cash cow and give some fringe players some minutes. F*#k the coefficient in a clear sighted way.

Cheers Tattie that does kinda make sense, and I totally agree with you 210% if you get beat in any fkn cup competition irrespective what it is, if you get beat then your oot simple as that.
That parachute thing / safety net is a load of fkn bollox and just shows how fkd up the game has actually become.

Could you imagine the zoomers amongst our support accepting getting pumped 10-0 off Dulka Prague, with the like of Ambrose in the line up.
Some want blood after a 2-2 draw with the hun.

We need a good youth set up to supplement our squad for European games rather than spending money on players who don't really improve us much.

Europe is nice enough, but you really need a squad to cope with the demands of it all and that comes at a price way above our means.

Trying to figure out European club football competitions is enough to drive anyone to drink these days, but I will have a go.

As it stands, fourth place in the Premiership gets into the Europa Conference League (third tier competition) in the second play-off round, meaning they would have to win three rounds to get into the league stage (no groups any more, just a league).

Third place in the Premiership gets into the Europa League (second tier competition) in the second qualifying round, which also means they would have to win three rounds to get into the league stage. As I understand it, the losing teams in this round transfer to the Europa Conference League third qualifying round, two rounds from the league stage.

The Scottish Cup winners get into the Europa League play-off round for the Europa League (second tier), meaning they have to win one game to get into the league stage. Losing this tie gets a place in the league stage of the Europa Conference League (third tier).

I don't know how this changes in the event that Celtic win the cup. We will cross that bridge when we come to it.
