I’m always a little sceptical about new ways of defining poverty and about the organisations that make a living out of finding it. That being said, it’s beyond doubt that a lot of people find it hard to make ends meet in this country. I would also agree with you that the Tory manifesto does not offer any quick fixes along the lines of the ‘someone else will pay’ approach of Labour.

To suggest that poverty is the sole feature of the Tories is nonsense, however. When I was at South Grove in the 70s a kid in my class disappeared for several weeks and upon being asked why when he returned he told the teacher that he didn’t have any shoes. That was just one kid, but there were plenty at the school who were clearly from struggling families at a time when we were living the Labour government dream.

I agree with you that Brexit will harm the economy of this country, but we had the argument and Leave won. Labour could have eased the fairly soft May deal through Parliament, but chose to play daft games instead and now you have the harder Johnson approach.

Where we clearly differ is whether Labour’s debt creating and job destroying policies are a sensible response to UK poverty. I don’t whereas you prefer the ‘it won’t happen muttering’ approach.

A Tory councillor said the exact same thing twelve months ago and then had to eat humble pie when invited to do the job.
Bit like spending millions on foreign aid ( not necessary) and we don’t know what it’s all being used for.

Yes, regularly.

A friend of mine used to volunteer one.

He gave it up because he saw too many receiving the benefit that didn't need it. He had one guy once say hello to him in the local store. The needy guy was buying lottery tickets.

But I give on the hope that it ends up in the right places, but who knows?
