I already explained this though, it took Colby Bishop 3 years, 3 different clubs and 80+ appearances to get to a level where Accrington deemed him good enough.

If he'd stayed at Notts getting the odd game off the bench there's no way he reaches the level he's at now and he wasn't good enough to be a first team regular when he was here. We don't have the money to hang on to every youngster with a bit of potential and just keep loaning them out like Chelsea do every season in the hope that they become good enough to make an impact or become a saleable asset, it just isn't possible at this level.

As for Buckley vs Osbourne, Osbourne has been offered a contract by Notts and Buckley is a rumour, so at the moment it's a bit of a waste of time debating it.

I mean... That's what Brentford have done... So it's not out of the question that we could do the same, if we can pick up a few Cal Roberts' a season I'd imagine it will be more profitable long term and they're good enough to make an immediate impact, which is why Brentford did it.

The money we made from Dongda He, Byrnes (probably spelt his name wrong but went to Liverpool) and Etote probably paid for a single season of the academy, what's the point?

More likely used to pay the debts accrued by signing journeymen players on ridiculous contracts ...

I wonder if there was any truth in the Eric Andersson rumour. He is a ball winner.

The problem is British teams in the main have this opinion of first sign of trouble buy your way out of it....I mean Ardley signed 8-10 players in the Jan and we still went down.

Germany has it right but then again they are fan owned its why quite a few talented young UK players are going there as they know they will get a chance.

My point is you do obviously need to sign players from other clubs but also have some faith in your own, my question has always been this if we dont think these kids are good enough why give them a contract ???

It's a gamble, throw out a cheap net and see if you get any catches pretty much, the vast majority of people in youth teams don't make it, that's just the way it is. In the EFL you do HAVE to have at least one player in your squad (starting 11 or bench) that's home grown at the club for every game though so there's that too.

Kyle is spot on about our local competition sweeping up most of the best young talent in the area too, competing with Forest, Derby & Leicester and finding/keeping hold of someone with true talent is like winning the lottery, even if we did get them here you'd imagine their parents would be constantly waiting for the chance to jump to one of the other teams.

So you'd drop one of our best players and one of the best players in the league, to make way for Osborne because he's home grown?

That's a loaded question Freeman "Drop one of our "best" players"? I could be sarcastic and say No, I'd drop the most useless one..... (Edit: Comment not aimed at any particular individual) Not my point though. My point is that in my world there is room for Roberts AND Osbourne, in a team that drives forward with pace and passion. If you'd prefer sideways crab football with the team consisting of players who cant get in Motherwell reserves you are entitled to that view of course.

Well that depends on how smart your parents are you will earn more money at clubs higher up but you have a much less chance of playing first team football.

Covid is going to make sure teams throw a cheap net out as you put it as with no fans in the ground the revenue is smaller which means teams are likely to turn to home grown players.

Most don’t make it you are right and I’d argue most signings of experienced players over the last decade haven’t made it either if you had a list of all players we have signed in the last decade and the percentage how many the fans think are good I’d guess it is very low.

Any parent with a brain cell that wasn't a Notts County fan would think Forest were a much better option for their child, their facilities and recent history of bringing through players is leaps and bounds ahead of ours and Matty Cash, Ryan Yates, Tyler Walker, Joe Worrall, Jordan Smith, Brennan Johnson and Alex Mighten are all players from their academy currently in their first team squad so the argument of getting more football doesn't hold up too well either.

Your last sentence doesn't make much sense either, how could you argue that "most experienced players over the last decade haven't made it" when they're experienced? The fact they have experience means they already made it, if they've had a decent career up until they come to Notts there's a decent chance it's our fault it doesn't continue as we've had our fair share of sh*te managers and a very poorly ran club for the last probably 15-20 years.

Them players have all been at Forest and to my knowledge none were here so your point makes no sense I’m talking about players who are here yes if they do well they will get sold same with Cash will if a EPL team bids a decent amount for him.

I couldn’t care less what players have done elsewhere most players signed in the last 10-15 years for us have been crap but as they have a “record” elsewhere means they “must” be good....especially the barrel of sh*te Moniz/Branston signed.

You won’t change my opinion as it is bloody obvious we need to change our strategy hopefully with this lot the signing of Roberts is a step in the right direction he isn’t our own but he is a talented and hungry player.
