Not that I think that this has anything do with Covid, (there’s plenty of evidence Johnson planned to renege on the WA even as he they signed it) but what EU policies would prevent something like the furlough scheme in a time of crisis?

The UK is curtailing its scheme at the end of October while Germany for example is carrying on theirs until the end of next year.

.. the facts are that the future population of NI will democratically decide to join Eire. Nothing on earth will stop this. The NI Agreement was a farce and a fudge to stop the IRA killing spree; put another way, a sell-out by the Major/Bliar hypocrits and a way to help Paisley and co not to lose face.
For decades, NI has been used as a test bed for government projects which keep the high proportion of government employees gainfully employed, in an otherwise employment desert.
With that back drop, it really doesn't matter whether a few politicians are offended at a small political manoeuvre which will be forgotten in a couple of years as the world gets on with living. COYP ...

I don't know the EU rules on the furlough scheme. That wasn't my point.

Less than a third of respondents in Northern Ireland said they would support a United Ireland

A recent poll in Northern Ireland found that less than a third of respondents would support a United Ireland if a border poll was to be held the following day.

That's a far more impressive per cent then the 52-48 who favoured Brexit,
That's a far more impressive majority than the 52-48 who voted Brexit.
The Belfast Telegraph reports that just 29 percent of the 2,000 people surveyed across Northern Ireland would back a United Ireland, 52 percent would choose to remain in the United Kingdom, and the remaining 19 percent don’t know or declined to answer.

The newly-released poll, considered Northern Ireland's largest general election face-to-face study, was carried out across 18 Westminster constituencies between December 28, 2019, and February 11, 2020.

... ha, so much for polls. The Proddies would never vote for unity. Many Popists wouldn't want to show their hand until they've produced enough kids to be sure, ... to be sure ...

    * Awaits that WooWar bloke claiming that 'smokey bacons' is a racist term.
It's not just the gammons unfortunately.

Ad hominem attacks? Where? How does posting politicians own words constitute ‘pot shots’? How does posting the views of a constitutional expert on a constitutional matter not count as ‘serious discussion’ ? Why don’t you post an actual opinion on the subject instead of sitting on the sidelines heckling others?

Most importantly, how’s it going with getting Biden better than evens?
Ad Hominem in the sense that when you post a Nancy Pelosi quote, Gump lays into her for her appearance. When Gump posted a quote by the free trade think tank guy, you lay into the man himself and not what he says.

My opinion would be that the changes this government is proposing would be reckless, for a number of reasons, but given their track record is probably negotiating tactic, or just grandstanding to help the Rule Brittania crew a lazy lob on.

My opinion about Brexit is that we might see some benefits in terms of law and order and the justice system, but we'll get shafted on pretty much everything else, especially trade. I don't think I've made a secret of that over the past few years.

About the US election I've checked and Biden's best price is 1.83, which means you were right about the price not drifting any more. However he's still longer odds than the previous 1.5 a couple of months ago, and longer than you would expect for anyone trying to beat a man like Trump, especially in the middle of a badly handled pandemic, so I think my point stands.

I'd still wait to see if they can nurse him through the debates before even contemplating putting money on Biden.

The state aid excuse is starting to implode.

When a government tells this many lies they eventually tie themselves up in knots.
