I still think that his arrival at Tannadice is linked with a possible takeover bid, with Craig Levein involved. I definitely think that we are in for a hectic summer and it will be helped massively by knowing what league we are in as soon as possible!

His arrival was definitely nothing to do with Levein. Had Levein come on board until the end of the season, he then wanted Andy Kirk as manager once he moved upstairs in the summer. That's why we turned Levein down and instantly moved onto Goodwin. The speed of the appointment suggests to me that this was purely an in-house appointment with no other party involved.

Sometimes the fit between coaches and clubs just works. I have a good feeling about this.

It was another Jim, when asked at the end of his interview was there anything he would ask for if he got the job said "aye, a stopwatch, your players aren't fit enough"

I feel the opposite. I do want him to stay, but I don't want anything distracting him, or the team, from the challenge ahead. The manager is fighting for a contract. The players are fighting for the manager. Let's not have anyone think they can take the foot off the gas just because the manager has succeeded in getting himself a deal.

It’s a matter of trust. Show that we trust him to do a good job and that we want him next season.

I don’t think the players are going to be less motivated to avoid relegation depending on the manager situation.

Also it avoids uncertainty

Faith in him will waver if we lose the next few games. As I've repeatedly said, this notion of everyone wanting him even if we go down is not shared by everyone. It has to be a contract offer that's based on success as far as I'm concerned.
