did the police not leak a story at the time that Duggan fired at them and it hit the radio on the police officer?

bit cowboy story sounding hitting the sheriff's badge I remember thinking at time, its confirmed he had no gun when he came out of the cab it may be the gun they found was Duggans but i dont blame anyone from his family not beleiving it, as it had no fingerprints, no dna and could have been planted, they do have a history of that sort of thing
