away. Young lad at 26 passed away after a battle with leukemia, and Aberdeen are holding a 26th minute applause as a 'tribute'.
What's everyone's thoughts on this?

I don't know why,if we're having a minutes applause for the deceased,we don't do it for every fan that passes on.
It seems a strange one to me.
As much as I feel for the boy's family, I wonder why it seems to be the done thing these days.
Same goes for the minutes applause we had at the Partick game for the Clutha victims.
It seems to be more common that we have to have a mass show of grief. It does seem to be a product of the social media generation. #Pray for {insert tragic event here} victims
That said, it does no harm and I feel like a c#nt for thinking it shouldn't be done.
Silences for ex players who pass away is about the extent it should go IMO.
That's exactly my point of view, and after doing a bit of Googling, he might even be more of a Man U fan than a Don.Originally Posted by blanche
It's a tragic story, no doubt, but if that guy - God forbid - on Sheep mad passed away after getting knocked down would they have a minutes applause? Surely most sheepys can't be happy with this?
I agree completely with this. I've said before - I think we focus far too much on these things at the football these days.Originally Posted by blanche
I think people should be allowed to grieve as individuals and grief shouldn't be imposed on crowds at sporting events.
I don't think any are unhappy about it. I'd never heard of the chap until he passed away & it is a tragic story.Originally Posted by DannyBhoy

When I first read about the lad, I thought he was maybe some sort of superfan, and even though I would still have found it strange I would have maybe seen the reasoning behind it. The more I read about it though, it seems to be less of a mark of respect and more about keeping Facebook w@nkers happy.Originally Posted by Alternative_Poster
I wouldn't say I'm unhappy about it.
Let's see where it goes.
As I said, you can't do it for everyone who passes away, are they going to decide if one fan is more deserving than an other?
Maybe it will be a one off.
Put it this way,if I die tomorrow my family wouldn't expect any commemerative event and I've been going to Pittodrie since the 70's and have no affinity with any other team.
