Sadly, Scottish football has probably passed the point of no return with many 'customers'.
Most folk have found something cheaper and more enjoyable to do at weekends. That's just the way it is.

crowds per home league game in season 1949-50 according to a known source on the web.
averages dropped alarmingly by the early 60,s and it was below 12,000 with lowest league crowds being 3,000.
they used to get over 40,000 regularly v hearts, celtic and rangers, and even as recently as 1974 got a huge crowd of over 48,000 v celtic in a 4-2 defeat.
canny see how the old easter road could fit that amount its a lot of people for such a smallish ground.
last weeks hibs v celtic got 12,500, peanuts compared to the old days.
you would think dropping the price of football might encourage more people to go, a game like this should be getting a near sell out.
what do the panel think.

The East Stand at Hibs used to be a double terrace, you could probably get 25,000 on that side of the ground back in the good old days.
The record attendance at Easter Road stands at 65,000 which was for a derby in the early 1950,s.
I was at a Hibs v Celtic game where Celtic won the league, might of been 74 or 75, crowd that day was 45,000.
it dosent help when celtic charge at least A?26 for a single match ticket v the likes of killie or st mirren.
its time those that ran the game listened to the fans.
the game you mention dullard was in 1973, just seen the goals on youtube about half an hour ago, the crowd was 45,000 as you said.
This apparently Easter Road.
There's a cracking thread on another forum I post on about the old stadia. The memories.
Loved the old Tannadice because it was great for a bounce with those steep slopes but the redeveloped one is one of my most hated.
Conversely, I like Tynecastle today but the old version was scheidt (at least when it rained).
Still had one of my best nights at the football there though.
Check this out HT, this is a photo from the highest attendance at Easter Road looking towards the old East Terracing, 65,000 at a derby and nae segragation![]()

first time i was at easter road was in 1987 when that terrace had been reduced probably by about 2/3rds in size and covered.
and the hibs end behind the goal was a lot smaller than it was in that picture of easter road, also it was seated.
Hibs lodged plans with Edinburgh Council back in the 50,s to expand Easter Road to a frankly staggering 98,000 capacity.
They owned land all the way round the stadium which over the years has been sold off and had housing built on it, even if they wanted to they couldn't extend it now because its surrounded.
Crowds were massive back then, I,m sure there was a Motherwell v Dundee ( or mebbe Dundee United ) Cup Final at Hampden which had 136,000 there, unbelievable crowd for a game not featuring the OF. That was just after the war and I think people were just glad to get a chance to go to anything.
Some of the junior crowds were staggering as well.Originally Posted by Dullard
