    Barroso: Scots EU bid 'difficult'

"European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso has said it would be "extremely difficult, if not impossible" for an independent Scotland to join the European Union. "

Aye, allow penniless Romania and Bulgaria in, but keep wealthy Scotland out

re: Barroso: Scots EU bid 'difficult'

    This is hilarious

The quote in full just so we know the context

"We have seen Spain has been opposing even the recognition of Kosovo, for instance. So it is to some extent a similar case because it's a new country and so I believe it's going to be extremely difficult, if not impossible, a new member state coming out of our countries getting the agreement of the others."

Comparing Scotland situation with Kosovo a region that broke away from Serbia (both of which have never been a member of EU)without its consent and has mixed recognition around the world. Scotland would become independent democratically with the consent of the rUK unless Barroso is implying Westminster will not accept the result of the referendum.

I loved how Andrew Marr thoroughly cross examined and picked the holes in his answer. Actually no he didn't. He didn't at all.

Seriously though, why do all the yes men disbelieve everything that they're being told?

No Doubt Barroso is a bully, and full of bluster.

Why do the NO voters take the idea of independence as some kind of personal insult? They cant make a point without lashing out with some angry pyshtake.

There's a wee bit more to it for Barroso given the Spanish politics but I would personally prefer we had our own currency and were outwith the EU just like Norway.

    I'm still voting yes.

Scottish independence: Sir David Edward says Jose Manuel Barroso 'wrong' on EU
A senior legal expert has challenged the opinion of the European Commission president over the status of an independent Scotland in the EU.

Jose Manuel Barroso said last week any new state would be outside EU treaties and would have to reapply to join.

But Professor Sir David Edward, a former European Court judge, believes that Scotland and the rest of the UK would be in a comparable position.
There would be no need for a new accession treaty, he argued.

Instead, negotiations prior to independence would result in amended EU treaties.
