O/T FAO all Millers living in America

Hi All you lovely ladies and gents,

I'm wondering if some of you will be able to get in touch as I need some help and advice,

I'm currently looking at the possibility of getting a Visa and moving to America but i've got some questions that the USCIS website doesnt answer.

If you get my email address off Deano or one of the other admins and drop me a mail, If thats not possible ill post it on here.

I would really appreciate any help you all could offer on this.

Which visa are you looking at getting? Looking to head out with work? Not an easy time to get them.

Been through the process 4 times, LOTS of hassle, but well worth it for the experience.

It is a working visa that I'm looking at John ,

I've spent hours and hours researching this or other visa's I'm eligible that can/will eventually lead to permanent residencey over there.

I'm not much use I'm afraid as I came here on an L1 Visa (inter company transfer) and the company handled the visas and green cards for me, Mrs CA and the two little CAs. I suppose trying to find a company that would do the same is the only tip I can offer.

One thing I do know, when the green cards expired after 10 years I was left to foot the bill for the renewals of $1,800 when we should probably gone for citizenship at $2,720.

We came on the same visa as CA, the only difference being that we owned the company involved in the transfer and it was an absolute nightmare dealing with USCIS and very expensive.

The only advice I can give is don't come on an E2 where you have to buy a US business and employ a certain number of US citizens. Most businesses for sale are crap ones and the E2 is only ever a temporary visa which can never be converted to a Green Card.

Despite this, many Brits take the chance and buy a business thinking they can live the American Dream but eventually they fail and go home broke.

Best bet if you can't do an L1 is an EB5 which leads to a Green Card but you have to invest $500,000 and it can be tied up for about 5 years.

It's extremely difficult for Europeans to get a Green Card unless they are wealthy or have a special talent that is in short supply in the US.

I'm the same as CAM and Sota in terms of coming on an L1 ('intra' not 'inter' company transfer, CAM,) and converting to a green card. In fact I've done it twice; initially in the seventies and again in the nineties.

If you're looking for views on how best to answer USCIS questions I'm happy to comment but it would not be as someone with particular inside information.

One of the US contributors on here in the past mentioned that his wife had some expertise in this area. I think his board suggested he was in the New York area - or at least somewhere on the east coast - but I can't think who it was at the moment.

One of the acknowledged expert firms on US immigration are the New York lawyers Fragomen, Del Ray, Bernson and Leowy. Detailed advice would be expensive but you may be able to get some general guidance before they put the meter on...
