Should strength of opposition limit a players standing

IFa guy plying his trade in the second tier is doing a great job should it be dismissed because "he's only playing against rubbish opponents"

Should Strachan ignore certain players because they're not playing in top flight and it's easy to look good against poor opponents.

He better not. The backbone of the SFA A Side is from the English Championship...

    Tough one.

Jon Daly has found his level after a sharp decline in his last season at United and possibly before that.

But then again, Sandaza was scoring for fun at St Johnstone but couldn't score in the 4th tier.

Both have had polar opposite fortunes against butchers, bakers and candlestick makers.

The bottom line is that if you have two guys who play the same position, both of equal worth, you're going to choose the one playing against other full time pros at a higher level.

Should the people that scoff at the thought of say Frazer Forrester or Van Dyke getting international call ups becuase of them playing in a league that's a one-horse race, be promoting the likes of Lee Wallace or Black or whoever for the Scotland team? And vice versa

The English Championship is superior to the SPFL let alone the third tier of Scottish Football.

its big step up from diddy football to international level, some players can make the jump, others cant, it really depends on the player and the circumstances.

a goalkeeper making good saves at diddy level can still make good saves at international level and might even face less shots.

but a defender at diddy level will face tougher strikers and a striker will find better defenders at international level than diddy level.

some players excel at club level, even at a high level playing alongside great players, but playing against weaker opponents, yet at international level where there is a more level playing field they cant really impose themselves on certain games. so its a question of adapting your game to suit the occasion.
