    Football & depression

My mate is a proper diehard rangers fan and has only missed a handful of games home and away , genuinely feel bad for the lad . He is taking it badly, football can really effect the mood he's in and he's up and down all the time . Football can make you feel great at times and then at rock bottom at others . I was reading about Ian Redford today and really puts things into perspective .

The minute you let the team you support effect your day to day life and how you are feeling each day then you need to take a long hard look at yourself and start realising there's more important things in life.

football is hardly any fun anymore, the cops, governments and moany kvnts have ruined it, its all so sanitised now that you're better off staying in with a cargo and playing fifa 14

football might affect peoples moods but if it causes depression then there is something you need to look at in your life.

football is a hobby, an escape, something to chill out to, it can be great and when the rest of your life is ticking nicely its good to have football as an interest.

when more important things in life are not going well football can be irrelevent.

not sure about the ian redford situation but i suspect it was nothing to do with football which made him take his own life.

That is true , there is far more important things but loads of football fans are the same , And it must be extremely hard for players to not let it effect their day to day life . Link for anyone who missed the story . - view external link

The article points out his last words in the conclusion to his book : Whatever comes my way, I will be up for the challenges,a€ Redford concludes. a€œIf you have a good core philosophy of who you are and how you feel about yourself, nothing can get in your way.a€ He was dead within two months.

One of the greatest players I've seen play for Dundee United , and a real hero of mine .

I think for players it's completely different story when it is their life and their livelyhood. Must be difficult for some players when they stop playing and have nothing to fall back on.
