The 31-year-old left having spent 13 years there in two spells as a player.
"Coaching is something I really want to get started, and I'll do that next summer abroad somewhere," he said in the Evening Times.
"I've worked under some top managers. Walter Smith, **** Advocaat, Paul Le Guen, Graeme Souness, Mark Hughes and Alex McLeish.
"You see the things they need to deal with - God, I've given some of them tough things to sort out - and it does appeal to me getting into that side of the game.
