FFP--A Load Of Old Bollox, Or What?

Personally I think it's the former.

All FFP is going to do, at whatever level, is preserve things the way they are at the moment. If clubs are prevented from "spending beyond their means" how are clubs hoping to break through into the elite supposed to do it?

If clubs want to borrow money, from banks, owners, or the man in the f_ucking moon they should be allowed to do so. If a club's management is happy to operate with a massive debt (like many "normal" companies in the world) why shouldn't they.

If a mega rich Sheikh wants to "loan" Manchester City billions of petro dollars why should some silly jumped up little jobsworth at UEFA or our own FA or PL stop him? No one tells the jobsworth how to spend his money so why should he think he has a divine right to tell others how to spend, or squander if they so wish, theirs?

Answers on a postcard please to either Michel Platini, Richard Scudamore or whatever knob runs the Football League these days.

Indeed, let's look at Man City: They have a 400M sponsorship arrangement with Etihard Airlines. Funny, but both the club and the airline are owned by...you guessed it. This really is sleight of hand financial massaging.

And Chelsea have a very benevolent owner, who has loaned the club a not inconsiderable fortune. And a loan is just that, until it has to be repaid.

Isn't it supposed to level the playing field between the "haves" and "have nots"...

Might not see the benefit straight away but I guess it's a step in the right direction.

Don't really see how it can Mike. Take the Champions League for example. I think even the clubs that get eliminated in the group stages without gaining a point get something like A?30 mill just for taking part.

That obviously counts as "revenue from football" for FFP purposes meaning that club is able to spend that much more, minimum, than a team which doesn't compete. That's probably the most glaring example but there are numerous others which advantage the more successful sides--prize money, t v revenues etc etc.

I've nothing against successful sides being rewarded, far from it. All I'm saying is that if someone wants to "invest" millions in a club to try to gatecrash the party they should be allowed to do so without the constraints of artificially imposed "

Platini recently described Dortmund as the best example of successful financial fair play, he said they were the model on which every club should be based.

Borussia Dortmund are 20 points behind in the league, they were better last season but unfortunately lost their best player (Gotze) to top of the table Bayern Munich. This year they will lose their current best player to Munich for free so it is not beyond the realms of possibility that next seasons Bundesliga could be won as early as February by a whopping 25-points.

Before FFP Dortmund had won back to back titles but they now have to follow the UEFA rules and cut their cloth accordingly. Bayerns revenue is just far too large for Dortmund to be able to compete so under the current rules Germany's top division will continue to resemble the SPL.

Theres 4 lanes on a motorway, the first 3 lanes are for speeds up to 70 mph the 4th lane is for cars that can go over 200 mph, if you can afford a car that will travel at 200 mph then you will arrive at your destination much quicker

When seagulls follow the trawler, it is because they think sardines will be thrown in to the sea

A splendid analogy. The bit about the motorway, that is, not the sardines. The sradine analogy stinks. Or at least the sardines will, if they are travelling in the slower lanes, particularly if the refrigeration is f_ucked.

But back to the motorway. Is it right that someone can stop me borrowing, scrounging or even laundering the money to be able to afford my 200 mph car?

Or will I be forever doomed to be driving the beaten up Ford wheezing along in the slower lanes?
