My Daughter has always had good taste in music and is now getting into Punk.
She likes The Ramones and The Dead Kennedys. I suggested she listen to 999.
Do you have any good suggestions?
Social Distortion, the best band in the world, ever.
Joy Division.
Although, some would argue that they're more post-punk, pre-goth modernist, than just classic punk, like the pistols and the clash.
Tell her to get into prog, new or old, or if she aspires to "cool", whatever that is, the blues. 999 were just an blip; an pimple on the surface off of musical culture through the decades. Good taste in music does not equal punk.
999 songs? Start with the singles off of the first two (2) albums, I'm Alive, Emergency, Me and My Desire, Homicide and Feelin'Alright With the Crew, also Nasty Nasty which was never on an album. Those are proper punk anthems.
I'd tell her to take a look at some of the other early bands like X-Ray Spex, Gen X, The Damned and the Clash as well as the Buzzcocks. Also some Americans like the Ramones, the Cramps, Patti Smith and Talking Heads.
That lot's your starting point, but there's loads out there, loads of fun just looking through some of my old stuff, The Pack, who became Theatre of Hate, then Spear of Destiny, Killing Joke, Bauhaus, the Cult.
The Adicts are marvellous as well.
Celtic punk is worth a listen, many good bands such as Dropkick Murphys, Flatfoot 56, Flogging Molly.
Oi bands like Blitz, 4 Skins, The Business are worth a mention.
The list of good punk bands is endless imo.
SLF and Angelic Upstarts were no bad.
Divvent listen to much punk stuff these days but up to about ten years agan I were obsessed with Yank bands such as Bad Religion, Pennywise, Shelter, New Bomb Turks and The Descendents. The Offspring were ace too, before they went all poppy and gash. Tell her to give the almighty Leatherface a spin too - the best punk band this country has ever produced. All the above are fantastically tuneful along with the 100mph playing.
Speaking off of 100mph, try the ****ies their version off of Eve of Destruction is monumental.Originally Posted by Floppy_funbags
