    match of the day

presenters creaming themselves over rooneys goal today, even had a vote on which was the best, his or beckhams in 1996.

ffs, ive said it many times before, belting the ball from distance and it going into the net isnt a great goal, it happens and at every level.

great goals are those that involve interchange of play between several players all connecting thought as to whos passing where or when and players reading those intentions ahead og defenders.

any c***t can hit a ball from distance, these goals to me are 10 a penny, it was a good goal but its not a technique that is going to give england an advantage at world cup level, that needs a more sophistocated approach to the game.

and another thing, earlier they were doing stat on striking partnerships in the top flight, apparently it started in 1992.

amazing that english football from 1890-1992 has dissapeared into a blackhole.

i prefer team players scone, they are more efficient and more beneficial for the team.

thats why i admire german football. never has any egos, just players who know where and when to pass and when to make the correct decisions.

I think Beckham's goal was better as it was practically a dead ball he struck and to be able to get that accuracy, power and height was exceptional. Rooney's weas great too as he was ablle to direct it despite hitting on the volley.

The thing with both goals is the vision required, Rooney looked up to see where the keeper was the split second before he cracked it. This was no lucky lob.

Ok, I know the type of player you mean but could you nominate three top european players who you feel should be ahead of Messi and Ronaldo etc when it comes to accolades and awards.

    Thanks.

Wow, seriously? Have you ever heard of Stefan Effenberg or Oliver Kahn?

I get the point you're making about team players and goals, but there is something impressive about a strike from distance. The vision if nothing else.

I agree with Wang that Beckams goal was better but Rooneys was still great

First of all to have the vision to see the keeper off the line, then to have the skill and accuracy to get the ball over him and into the net.

You see players trying it all the time and making a total mess of it. Goals scored like that are not common at all, that's why they show Beckams and now will show Rooneys. Both fantastic goals

    Rooney is fat and average.

I've not seen the goal but if it keeps Moyes in a job then hats off to the Evertonian.

Is it just me that thinks the goal was rubbish, it was a hit and hope, bounced about a yard before the line and what was the keeper doin? Running away from it?

    the goal was overrated.

    thats my point.

if you want to see a great goal, try Arsenals earlier in the season when they played several one-twos.
that goal took a hell of a lot more vision than rooneys but it wont get a mention now.
