    One for the Very Oldeez

Topic for debate with a fellow ageing Dosser was when the end terraces were concreted.

I recall red cinder and railway sleepers in the late 60's, but have been told I'm imagining it. As for the Shed, I can't recall anything other than concrete steps prior to 2 additional rows of barriers and the fence going up.

    From Motherwell On This Day...

    Saturday 5th September 1959
The first home game of the season was played against Airdrie in the new look Fir Park. Concrete steps had been built under the covered enclosure and on parts of the terracing to improve the comfort of the spectators and increase the capacity to 40,000. Only 13,423 were in the ground as a Pat Quinn hat-trick and another from Ian St John brought a 4-1 victory.

I was 16 back in 1959 and I used to "sneak" in to the "wee" end during my school holidays and watch them lay the concrete for the steps.
As it was about to set they had a small roller with dimples in it and that's what they used to give the steps a grip.
I was such a regular I used to nip round to the Fir Park Cafe for their fags and my big moment came when they allowed me to roll a few of the steps.

This raises a good question. Outside of Cup games, What is Motherwell's largest home crowd?. Anyone know?
